I have a 6 month old bantam, Pearl that is having issues & I don’t know how to help her.
She had very labored breathing that is only slightly rattling but just continually breathing heavily and limping but also looks like she’s straining. So maybe egg bound? But I don’t feel anything and it’s been going on for a few days. She’s been limping for over a week & a half.
I’ve never seen her lay, so I don’t know if she’s ever started. She’s eaten and drank a little but not much.
It’s hard to tell, but I feel like her limping doesn’t stay to one side. Which makes me think it’s due to pain from an egg maybe?
Her crop empties in the morning and there’s no smell so I don’t think it’s sour crop.
We’re in Texas with very high heat, so she’s been inside for a week.
Please help 😢 I’m a newish chicken mom and have no idea how to help her.
She’s the small white hen in the video.

It's really hard to tell from the video.

Have you given her any electrolytes or some B complex?
Or if you have Nutridrench or rooster booster. That couldn't hurt.

I would start treating for heat stress and see if that helps.

What kind of feed is she on? She should be ready to lay at any time.
Even if she hasn't started laying I'd give her a little calcium to help with muscle contractions and the B vitamins.

Did you check her legs for any obvious injuries?

No obvious injuries on her legs or anywhere else. She gets Kalmbach hen house reserve feed and I’ve been giving her scrambled eggs. I will give her more vitamins especially calcium. Thank you

It's hard to tell a lot in the video.

Can you get a photo of her poop and of her, can't see her face:)

The other one that's in there has an odd stance too. Is she having any issues?

Have you treated for worms and/or Coccidiosis?

Is the other one sick too? The posture is weird.

Normally to me breathing heavy is not a good sign unless its hot. Normaly when any animal or person gets ready to pass they start breathing hard.

If any vet is around I recommend going to them, they could possible figure out the problem and prescribe accordingly.

Its possible she may have heat stress, give calcium incase of eggbound and vitamins. Since you say she is not eating much, mix water in her dry foot and add honey to make it sweet so she is drawn to it.

Video is not of great help, thank you!

Yes, I’ve treated for both of those and yes, the red one is having issues too. I’m actually taking them both to the vet in the morning! Wish us luck. Thank you for your response.

How did the vet visit go?
We had to put Dottie (red hen) down. She was having digestive issues that could’ve been genetic according to the vet. Pearl (white hen) had a fracture on her leg that is already healing and the vet thinks that her shallow breathing could be caused by the nerves that are connected to the hurt foot because those nerves also serve the air sac. I’m not sure how to explain it. But she gave her an antibiotic and pain meds

Oh dear!
I'm sorry that you lost Dottie. Hopefully Pearl will heal up and start showing improvement.

Do you have any idea how she fractured her leg?
