I work with a veterinarian at a zoo and this sounds very much like a scorpion bite.This is exactly what our peacocks would do when they got hit by A scorpion. I don't know if where you live have them.

Reguardless I'm so sorry for your loss.
 
Thank you, I have never seen a scorpion since I have lived here... But anything is possible!
