hello all, im new with my beloved chickens. I think we have worms. no evidence of an actual worm, but my favorite chicken Fluffy has fell ill. She was the strongest, funniest chicken we had in a flock of 10. all were bought locally on December 22, 2012- not sure of exact age. but I would say about 3 1/2 months. heres the story. 3 chickens have died, so far. I've been beside myself. at first I thought they broke there leg. because im stupid and they won't walk. also they screamed when I picked them up. so horrified at their pain I had a friend "put them down". pushing forward and determined the rest of the chickens would be fine. well, its happened to the strongest & plumpest chicken I have now. Fluffy is my pride and joy. she now can move all limbs, but wont stand. she does not scream in pain when I pick her up. I fear she is too weak to stand. also her breast plate now feels "boney". she also has watery stool. and a pant - like breathing. she is currently separated from the flock, which they all miss her. I have been giving her scrambled eggs, her regular food, e-lytes, antibox, poultry remedy, and wazine (recommended by feed store for worms) . plus tons of tlc. at first she was eating and drinking well, currently its a challenge to get her to drink. its important to me to provide a safe and healthy environment for my new friends. I need helpful ideas. im horrified that the chickens I love, I may not be caring for properly. I didn't even know they get worms, how ignorant of me. any suggestions for Fluffy? I am so despirate. thank you all

Chickens ingest worm oocysts from the soil they peck, the grass they eat, and from bugs they eat.
Wazine gets rid of large roundworms only. Chickens can get many types of worms. Since your sick birds arnt drinking, I doubt they'll drink the wazine, or wont drink enough of it to be effective. Go to the feed store and purchase Safeguard equine paste wormer. Give your birds a "pea" sized amount orally. Then redose them again in 10 days, same amount. Safeguard is a broad spectrum wormer that kills most worms including large roundworms.

lets see. I love animals, esp my chickens. im new to the flock. for Christmas I got a variety of chickens from a local farmer. great. I thought. anyway, I got what I thought to be 10 chickens. no roosters. what I got was a bunch of sick chickens and 2 roosters. this creates so many problems. ive had 4 chickens die so far, I think from worms. ive tried 2 kinds of worming products, e-lytes, and antbox. so far 2roosters and 3 hens have not been infected. currently I have 1 hen "wobbly". everyone is on the e-lyte and worming regiment. ok. so I have been in a panic state over this whole thing. so sick chickens aside. how do I handle the 2 rooster issue? b4 it becomes a death match?? they are a kind and gentle flock. I need help to become a better chicken mom. thank you all.

In your first post you mentioned that you suspected worms. You wormed them as recommended but they're still sick and dying except for 2 roosters and 3 hens. Stop all medications, electrolytes, antibiotics, wormers. Visually inspect your birds for lice/mites, especially around the vent area. If you see any external parasites on them, dust them with sevin dust and repeat dusting them again in 7-10 days. Another concern could be that they might have cocci. You could purchase Corid 9.6% liquid solution to treat them. It'll be located in the cattle section at your feed store. Dosage is 9.5cc's per gallon of water for 5-7 days. Dont add anything else to the mixture and change it out daily.
You're right about the roosters, they'll fight over the hens. I recommend that you sell or give one of them away.
I'm wondering if you have seen any symptoms of a respiratory disease such as: gurgling, wheezing, sneezing, facial swelling, head shaking, bubbly eyes, runny nostrils, coughing? If so, dont give the roosters away, they could possibly infect someone elses flock.
