I am in the process of building my tractor and have come to the point where i need to join the coop and the run. I was tossing around the idea of making it somewhat detachable by using nuts and bolts. Any other suggestions?

How many out there find it useful to have a detachable run? Who wishes they would have done it. Right now i have a front access to the run so i can get in and clean but am getting concerned that i am adding to much weight to make it truly portable - i wont really know until it is assembled.

You will find a slightly-flexible connection works much better than one requiring lining things up juuuuuust so.

IMO you can't beat a coupla very well-seated-into-thick-wood eye bolts, with a snap or other arrangement to connect them. Alternatively you can have two holes for a short length of chain and then clip that back to itself (at each of several connection points, obviously)

(e.t.a. -- the trick is in being very cautious and careful and exact in installing 'em, so that you have just barely enough slack to attach/detach the connectors without SO much slop that it creates a big gap critters can walk thru)

Good luck, have fun,

Pat

I've been planning to do this. I will be moving my tractor every day, and everything I build is heavier than I thought it would be. It just makes sense to me to move the thing in two pieces.

Anyway, once I finish the coop (ugh!) I am going to connect it to the run with a couple turnbuckles. I didn't know what they were until I started looking at the coop pages. There's a good picture at the very bottom here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=22688-kycklingars-4x10-tractor

thanks for the responses. I think i will plan to keep the coop detacheable. The turnbuckle seems like a good idea but i would be concerned the eyes wouldnt hold up to the wieght but i would imagine you could get them in various gauges and lengths so this shouldnt be a problem. i will probably use those for the base. The top of the run will be the tricky part, that is where i think i will use eye bolts and hooks.

i will some pics when i figure it all out
