Detailed incubation records

I buy my Thermometers at the "Dollar Store". When you look at them, look for the ones that all read the same temperature and buy those. You Calibrate a Thermometer by placing it in Ice-Water which is always 32*
I get a good hatch at 99.5* Best of luck to you.

That's good to know. Dollar store items are so hit or miss. Can you share a pic of the ones you use?

If only that were an option. No such store where I live, or in this country (that I'm aware of). At the advice of many here at BYC, I purchased an independent thermometer when I bought my incubator; turns out that the one I bought was more incorrect than the one in the incubator, and by setting my incubator to 99.5* F according to the store bought gauge, found my chicks hatching at 14 or 15 days, and almost all had medical issues... enough of them had problems (or deaths) that that whole hatch is isolated and will all be used for meat only. I don't wish to incorporate any of their health issues into my future flock. The store bought thermometer is a Microlife brand, shaped like a duck's head, and totally unable to calibrate... I cannot even switch it from Celsius to Fahrenheit. As mentioned in a previous post in this thread, all guarantees are void the minute you've paid for something here; they simply are not honored. The manufacturer's solution is to me to prepay both directions to ship the item to them...with a specific form that must be mailed to them... and their form specifically expects you to be sending the item from the USA. Incidentally, because I'd be having to send it out of country, I would have to pay TAXES (and shipping) both for exporting and then importing when the thermometer is returned. It would cost more to go through this whole warranty process, than I spent on the thermometer, and take at least a month of two. To put this into perspective financially... my neighbor rents his house, and the acreage it sits on for $35 a month, so saying that I spent nearly $30 USD on a thermometer that doesn't work has my feathers ruffled.

Are yours due this weekend or next? I have a hatch going due 8/11, I set 28 to start, had 5 infertile so left with 23 doing well. Then for the heck of it because I had some good eggs on the counter added in another 12 a week later, first staggered hatch attempt. 8 I see development, the 4 SL eggs are too dark. I'm attempting an egg carton hatch and rotating the entire incubator, then shuffling the eggs in different spots. So far so good. I'm really excited about this hatch, it's my last one for myself.

What are you hatching?
I have quail eggs due to hatch tomorrow or Sunday.
Good luck!

I didn't realize you live in Panama. Here we have so many choices. Most Thermometers are adjustable by sliding the glass tube up or down. They are usually held in by metal clamps that are not so tight that they can't be moved. I always put them in ice water and check the accuracy. Then slide it as needed. To keep it from moving when you don't want it to, I put a drop of glue on the tube. I wish you the best on solving your dilemma. Are you able to order things online? That might be the best thing for you to do. Order from a hardware store. We are lucky having a "Dollar Store" here. I buy all of my bottles of Apple Cider Vinegar there that I use for sanitizing. Plus many other related items. Good luck...

Sorry, but my "Photo Card" plug does not work on my computer, but they are the only ones that Dollar Tree sells. Just a tall (12'' 0r so) thermometer like any other.
