Devastated-What could it have been?

Before I get scolded on the size of the wire, I know it’s too big. It’s been on the list of things we need to buy and change. It’s what we had to work with when we moved and set the chickens up. This is/was a temporary home for them. They had, however, been in there for 8 months with no issues. (Moved in November)

Sorry for your loss !I recommend adding hardware cloth around your coop and run with an apron around the bottom to improve your current set up well enough to keep them out. An electric fence around it all would be your best bet against those serial killers.

Fishers, martens, minks -- they are all nasty little killers. I was devastated when a mink killed three of my four original hens. These sneaky little mammals can get in through the smallest openings and appear to kill for sport, not for hunger. I accidentally left a coop door open but never imagined any predator would be able to squeeze into the run, which was made out something akin to hog panels, but with smaller openings.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is easy to become complacent about something like not having the wrong sized wire when there is no immediate threat. You will know better and will do better now. Take care.
