I recently had my favorite hen pass away. Just before she died, she passed a load of roundworms. I want to deworm the rest of my flock of 23. I have Panacur paste. I’ve heard this is good for roundworms and that o should give a pea sized drop to each chicken orally. I’ve decided I want to treat my chickens yearly ( or more often in recommended) as a preventative program.
Especially since my one hen possibly died of this and bc they free-range.
What type of broad spectrum dewormer do the experts recommend? How often and what dosage?

Also, I’ve found lice on a couple of my hens. Ivermectin helps with this, correct? What type? What route and dosage, please? And I see others talk about ivermectin as a dewormer. I thought it just killed mites and lice? In my experience as a vet tech, of course we used it as a preventative for roundworms. But other worms?

I keep my coup very clean. I scrape their ramps daily and scoop their poop daily. I also rake the coop floor and scrub their ramps weekly.

all advice is appreciated

Sorry for your loss. What worms do you want to treat and how much do your hens weigh? A pea-size amount of paste contains 25 mg of fenbendazole which is not enough to de-worm a 5 pound hen.

What wormer you use, and the dose, depends on the types of worms you want to treat. For a large flock and all worms I would suggest Valbazen at 0.08 ml per pound of body weight orally, repeat in 10-14 days.

For lice and mites, I give ivermectin at 1 mg/kg orally, which with the 1% injectable is 0.05 ml per pound of body weight.

Dose that help?

This is great !
My hen passed roundworms. So I think Panacur would do the trick. How often? My
I hear worms carry roundworms, (which they all will eat if they find them) so I’m guess a yearly schedule might be warranted?

should I just do Valbazen as a routine treatment? If so, how often and how much?

And what should I spray the coop with for the lice?
