So I’ve read that it’s best not to deworm during molt as it can do something to feather growth.
How accurate is this?
Does it hurt them?
My birds are just in my backyard; I’m certainly not showing them or anything, so is it juat a cosmetic thing? Or does it actually harm the growth of the feathers?

The reason I ask is because some of mine aren’t done with a soft molt yet, but I’m relatively sure they’ve got a load because of the signs they’re showing.
I don’t want to hurt them in any way, but I definitely feel like the danger of a worm load would outweigh any goofy looking feathers, if that’s all it does.

@Wyorp Rock ? I feel like you might know about this.

If I were you I would use an herbal, organic dewormer. If it doesn't work, try the stronger stuff after the molt.

Ya, Valbazen is what I have. I have it on the counter for in the morning.
So, it’s ok to go ahead even though they’re not done with molt?
I use Valbazen during molt. As a matter of fact, half my birds are in molt and I wormed all my birds earlier this past week. I worm my birds monthly.

I would use the Valbazen as @dawg53 has suggested.

Good question about de-worming and feather damage. Fenbendazole (Safeguard/Panacur) is what you are thinking of. In Plumb's Vet Drug Manual there are a couple of notations under birds and using Fenbendazole. "Do not use during molt (may cause stunted feathers)." "Not recommended to be used in breeding season during molt."

I see no notes for Valbazen (Albendazole).
