Deworming my flock

This is our first time dealing with this. We thought our chickens (particularly the younger ones) had stopped laying due to the change in weather.

But when checking them out this evening, we found worms in their droppings. They hadn't been acting lethargic nor eating more than usual.

So - what is the best dewormer to use (preferably available from TSC or Rural King)? We would prefer ones that we can just put in their water, but if they aren't effective, obviously open to treating them all individually.

Can you get some photos of the droppings?

Were they roundworms? If so, then you can use Safeguard (Fenbendazole) to treat your flock. Dose is 0.25ml per pound of weight given orally once a day for 5 days. (You can use Safeguard liquid goat dewormer or Equine paste - found at TSC or similar stores)

Valbazen is another option - you can order it online. Dose is 0.08ml per pound of weight give orally once, then repeat in 10 days.

The doses and timeline for both the Safeguard and Valbazen will treat most worms that chickens have except for Tapeworms which would require Praziquantel.

This is the best way to treat birds individually - grab them early in the morning while roosting...

I'll get my husband to take a picture tonight when he gets home. He described them as tiny, thin silvery worms.

Yes, that is the correct product for Valbazen. A bottle will last you a long time

i dont know this personally but i seen on a couple you tube homesteader videos if you put garlic in the water it helps prevent worms --- dont remember hearing that it will get rid of them --- i do spread a light layer of diatomaceous earth in the run a couple times a summer to help with parasites ---- hope ya get it handled
