DFIL giving us two ducks - what are they??? **UPDATED WITH PICS**

Any idea of their age? Do they all quack, or do any kind of mumble and whisper? The curly drake feathers show up when they are mature, I believe (I have all girls right now).

They look like crested Pekins to me.

Something to be aware of is that a guideline for drakes to females is one to three. If you only have one boy, you should be in good shape. Otherwise, more duck multiplication may be advisable! But everyone's case is different, so I would not be in a big rush. See how it goes, but be aware sometimes drakes can be overzealous in mating, and more females makes a better, healthier flock.

I haven't heard much noise from them yet, I am getting ready to head out there with their new kiddie pool

They are very shy and nervous (not surprising based on their previous conditions, just living in a dog kennel with minimal human contact) so I will need to gain trust. What types of treats do you all use with your ducks? I put some scratch down but for now they are uninterested. I will try to listen for honks and quacks and such.

They are roughly 10 weeks old at this point.

My Pekins love any kind of chopped leafy greens. They were shy of it at first, but come running when they see me with the treat tray. Make sure they have plenty of water available to drink at all times. Congrats on your new cuties!

Just be aware that there is a lethal gene involved with crested ducks. If you breed a crested drake to a crested hen and try to hatch the eggs, some will die in the shell and some will hatch horribly deformed.
