Hey y'all -

A while back I asked for advice here -
https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...-dfw-prefab-vs-www-urbannorthern-com.1299973/

y'all recommended going with the coop and run in one from Little Coop on the Prairie.

So I'd been corresponding with the lady about them, and Sunday my daughter and I, and spouse, went out to Rhome to look at some of them in person, because I was having a hard time getting a good idea from pictures. It went great, and I think we have the basics of what we want them to build for us. It's going to have to be a build on site - fortunately they're only about 15 miles up the main road from us.

This is exciting. And we finished the brooder box, just need to get the bedding in. And figure out how to set the water bottle up so it won't fall or anything. We get the chicks in just over a week, I'm feeling really impatient. Also a bit scared - I start reading up on the various diseases and parasites and such and I'm amazed anybody can keep chickens alive.

I don't know exactly what the stuff is. It's white, plastic like, comes in different thickness - this came up as she was asking about if we wanted to be able to walk into the coop, or have it the half height so that they have the cool shady spot under it. It's easy to clean. Well, lots easier. Sounds smart.

Will be interesting to see what it looks like.
I was thinking of the HDPE lumber that's used mostly for decks.

oh man ... I am signing up for a really big coop and run - because I like the idea of taking a folding chair in and sitting with the chickens in the shade - and because the forums here have convinced me "do it right the first time" - but man am I spending money on this project. I know that's the sane way to go, I'm not in a position to build it myself, but I am kinda going "what am I thinking?" I hope this is as much fun and education for my teenager and future vet tech as we think it will be. Chicks tomorrow, coop build in early May.

It's big investment, with the usual nerve wracking trepidation and hard swallows...
... but like any other tool, skimping is usually regretted.
