DH just called from the feed store to say they had their chicks in but there's a RIR that's pretty bad. He's bringing it home to see if we can save it but I need some advise on where to start.

I'm getting the brooder from last year back together so I can get it warmed up before he gets here and I'm going to put a little sugar in the water to give it a little energy.

Is there anything else I should do?? Thanks for any help.

Sounds like you might have it covered. I sure hope the wee one is not too far gone...and that you can save it. Also, try to get it to eat. Maybe wet some crumbles...and make a mash. Just dont make too much at a time, as you will have to throw it away after a few hours. ( it molds too fast) Good luck with it...I sure hope it makes it.

Thanks Deb. She's been asleep since he got here with her. I did get a few drops of sugar water in her. I have her set-up next to me on the couch so I can keep an eye on her. She did poop a while ago so that gave me some hope.

DH said the feed store got their chicks in on the 14th so she's 5 days old.

I'm going to go fix her a little mush now.

Just remember, she needs to be at or about 90 degrees. I sure hope she makes it. What a little blessing she will be! You might also try to hard boil some egg, mash up the yolk, and hand feed her. Good luck!

We just lost her.

I was reall hoping she would pull through. And I was looking forward to having a new baby in the house again for awhile.

Awww, Aimee....im so very sorry. I went through that last spring. I got a chick from the feed store. The kid had her by the leg, and was getting ready to toss it in the trash can. Glad I was there. I brought her and a "sickly" turkey poult home. Both were free...because they were on the verge of death. The little turkey didnt make it..but the chick turned out to be a beautifull white and tan EE. She lays the most beautifull light blue eggs.

Thanks again Deb. Glad to hear your little girl made it, sorry the turkey didn't.

DH really feels bad now, he's a big softy. We were both really hoping she would pull through. It's amazing how fast you can get attached to them.

Oh we have all so been there -

I think the part that is so hard is hoping so hard that something will survive when the odds are teeny. These little guys are so helpless - I realized this morning that I have become their sun, their waking to the day, the food, their water and really their mother. So it's no wonder we're so protective.

I am so sorry you had to go thru this and so glad you were able to bring the little one out of the feedstore into an environment of love and care.

No go get yourself some chicks in a few weeks....
