dh on my nerves.

Get an assortment of books about new babies from the library; specifically look for ones that talk about the items needed. Read through the recommendations--you will probably find some contradictory information. If you posted a thread here of "what are the most useful and the least useful" nursery items, you will likely find some people that think a thing was extremely useful, a must have and others who thing that that exact same thing was a complete waste. Probably the only thing that would be universally agreed upon would be diapers, but even there you will have differences of opinion as to the type of diaper.

Anyways, have your daughter looks through the recommendations and think through her lifestyle and come up with what she feels are essentials, and what is unnecessary. Then realistically decide what you want to help with and where you want to draw the line. Realize that not everything has to be acquired before the birth.

Make sure that any furnishings or equipment purchased meets current safety standards, especially if you purchase used. I agree that you should not purchase a used carseat. Over the years I have seen recalls on just about every type of baby product: nipples, bottles, pacifiers, cribs, play pens, high chairs, even clothes.

When I read these posts it's usually about a DH never do I read about a DW. Aside from that there is alot of information that is left out of these types of posts. For instance, can you afford to pay cash or is it going to be more debt? How much are mom and sister going to conribute? If they do, can you afford to pay cash?

Your post says "I found a baby swing" but then things switch to a crib. Not sure what's being considered.

I too gripe about the cost of things. On the other hand if I didn't pull back we'd be in hock up to our eyeballs. I just dumped a half pot of "star bucks" coffee down the drain, you bet your bippy I griped.

If you can't afford to pay cash then you need to consider used. For my son everything was used, the crib, the high chair the playpen, and the walker. The crib was used for all four of our children. It started out white but ended up red, blue , yellow and green. The only thing we replaced was the mattress.

There are three types of people in this world, the haves , the have nots and the have not paid for what they have. I don't want be the latter.

Yes! I sure do have a feeling of being out numbered.

You right about the complaining in public. Can't recall friends complaining about their wives either. Not that the wives are perfect. But then I married a beautiful woman.

baby stuff can be expensive, and if your heart is set on buying the swing, we're not here to convince you not to! Sorry that you and DH are arguing over it,I know you've posted a lot of stressful stuff lately, maybe he's grumpy because of all the people around having health problems...

baby swing prices are insane! its because now days, they dont just swing..they play music, vibrate, take the kids temperature..not really but they are pretty fancy. myself, even if we could afford it, i would never pay that much so i went on craigslist and scored a basic swing for 20 bucks.

(they also have high chairs now that also play music and vibrate..and they are also nearly 200 dollars..insane!)

I honestly think wives complain about husbands MUCH more frequently, and the ones that do, complain frequently, and rarely praise. I often wonder why they married him in the first place. It is very rare that I complain about my dh, and when I do, it is almost always to him, not someone else.

How come they don't sell recliners that vibrate and play music? Why do babies need a chair that vibrates for plays music? What ever happened to singing lulliby's. I never had a problem quieting my kids with my singing, they either be quiet or I keep singing. Or going to sleep for that matter. Usually after a couple of choruses of "there was an old lady who swallowed a chick" they're in a coma.
