Ducks will eat the grit when needed. They need it for digestion.Thank you... He actually has a water bowl and he has no problem with dry cat and dog food, he just doesn’t like ‘duck’ food. I wouldn’t mind except I want him to get his nutrients and a proper amount of protein. And I’m not sure if he should be getting grit or if he’d even eat that if offered.
If you want him to eat the duck food, you will have to give up feedig the duck the the cat and dog food. Once he is eating the duck food on a regular basis you can reintroduce the treats. If the duck is eating treats it must have access to grit. If the duck is outside potentially it can get grit from the soil, but only if the ground is not too compact or frozen. Some people sprinkle the grit directly on treats some just offer it on the side in a container. Either way the duck will eat it.
