so, tonight my mom and i made a diaper for my beloved chick, Callie. that girl is way too spoiled!
it was not too difficult, a little confusing at times, but we managed it! she is still quite little, only a 6 and a half week oldish BO, and she did not like it very much. but im sure she will get used to it eventually. i will MAKE her

cute!
I have a question tho. a diaper question if that.
the purpose of the chicken diaper is to allow free roaming indoors correct.
It collects the poop? sorry if this is a dumb question. i had that inquiring minds want to know.
dont know if my husband would allow it, but gosh i would love to bring one of my girls indoors with out the thought of poop accidents!

I had in the past bring a chicken in the house,, but they got me so nervous, and clucked all over the house,, kinda frighted my house rabbit. the rabbit started thumping really loud. my lil kids thought it was a riot tho!

LOVE IT! i've got 2 house chickens myself.....well, i WILL have 2. right now i only have one and he's not even a week old yet. i would love to learn how to make the diapers. i know on youtube there's a lady called "chickenmom" who has a very good video of how to measure and make the diapers. i'm gonna have to check that out when my babies get bigger. i know My Pet Chicken sells them, but they're SO VERY expensive! 25 bucks a diaper! i even ordered a couple diapers from this one lady on a different website, but i seriously didn't like how she did them. anyway....good luck, and i do believe she'll get use to it.

chkinut-i followed the video on youtube. it wasnt that difficult. and i know there is someone on byc who sells them for like 10 bucks. you shouldnt be paying 25!! Thats absolutely ridiculous!!

andrea-yes, the diaper collects the poo so that the chickens dont make a mess indoors. you put a panty liner or baby diaper or folded paper towels in there, so that the fabric doesnt get dirty. you just take the pad/paper towel/baby diaper out and throw it away!

umm, dumb question btw but what is a QC inspection?? wow i feel stupid..

Oh oh oh I just love that, I'm wondering though can you wash them and use them again. (I'm pretty sure if I tried to wash something with chicken poop on it in out washing machine she would NOT be very happy haha).

I think its a lovely idea to be able to allow your pets inside the house with out having to worry about poop. So many more chickens would be allowed to visit inside if it were not such a messy problem. I have a sometimes house duck who is trained to sit on his bed when he comes inside. I have towel there for him- and when he is ready to go- he just wanders back outside again - the back door is always open during the day when we are home so he can come and go as he pleases.
