I have 4 chickens. 3 buff orps hatched 2/22 09 and 1 jersey giant hatched about 2/10/09. The jersey has diarrhea. Its dark brown and runny but no blood or mucus or foam. She has had it since I brought her home. She is gaining weight normally, growing steadily and has good feathering.. She isnt lethargic or acting abnormally. The 3 orps have fine stools except on the days they get watermelon then everybody gets watery.

They are eating game bird crumbles mixed with egg layer crumbles as well as condioner pellets, rabbit pellets, flaked barley, the occasional handfull of cracked corn or wild bird seed. They also get household scraps mixed with yogurt, pasta, worms and the floor of their yard is spread with alfalfa. They free range in the backyard for a couple of hours 3 or 4 times a week.
Any ideas what this could be and what I need to do about it?
thanks

that's a whole lot of protein..
too much protein can be as bad as not enough.
really..not good for them.

I'd try just feeding layer feed for a while and cut out the other stuff and see how the droppings are.

I am wondering the same question, we just adopted a young hen a few days ago...same problem. Was wondering what to do about her, since everyone else is fine!
