Hello all. I have 2 pekin ducklings that are 5-6 weeks old. They have had diarrhea since I got them at around 1 week old. This might be kind of graphic but the diarrhea is an orangey brown color and smells AWFUL. They do occasionally have a solid poop and sometimes a baby food consistancy poop but the solids are pretty rare. I took them to the vet last Tuesday along with a fecal sample and the vet didn't see anything in the sample so she prescribed 21 days of tribrissen. They have been taking it for 7 days now and there hasn't been any improvement. I would think I should be noticing some improvement by now..part of the problem may be that they are so hard to get the medicine into. They are pills and I crush them and mix them into anything I can get them to eat..they have been onto me lately though lol any ideas on how to get the medicine down would be great too but I mostly wanted opinions on the diarrhea. Thank you!

They've never had any kind of dairy. They get purina duck grower and they get a small amount of greens. They also get 100mg of niacin added into each gallon of water because they were showing leg problems when I got them at a week old. I also know its nothing they're eating outside because they aren't outside much yet and when they are I supervise them the whole time. They just got switched onto the purina a week ago before that they were eating purina start and grow. They also get a little grit sprinkled onto their dish of food daily..

I am wondering if some ground up oatmeal (not instant, just plain oatmeal, dry) with their food and some probiotics would help. Just seems like their little systems are out of whack.

Did the previous owner say anything about them having had any medication, such as antibiotics? If their flora is messed up, that could explain it, and it would not necessarily show up on a standard fecal test.

I totally forgot to mention oatmeal. They are getting oatmeal mixed into their food daily as well. Approx. 1 cup of oatmeal to 3 cups of their food. I haven't tried probiotics though so maybe I should give that a go. What kind should I use? I don't think I can get them to eat yogurt they are so picky. They won't even eat peas which seems to be most ducks favorite treat.
