My hovabator genesis is supposed to arrive by tomorrow but someone gave me an idea of coating the exterior with varnish but I was thinking the outdoor white primer I used on my duck coop (supposedly safe for animals) just on the outside of the bator so it will be easier to clean, not get those nail marks from opening it with fingernails and maybe even help keep in the heat a bit. What do u all think? Dumb idea or not?

seems like a good idea to me. mines has all sorts of stains

So my broody duck had two healthy babies in the nest throughout the day but we just checked the nest and there was one that was out but had the egg attached and its navel was all distended another egg had one side completely crushed on one side where it had pipped and started zipping it was already dead. So I took the live one with the distended belly & put him in his egg in a Tupperware and in the bator. His belly has already shrunk about 1/3. Gonna wait til morning and hopefully it will be better. This crazy runner ducks hatch has been a nightmare! I really thought I would get sleep tonight after only getting 4hours the last two night with the other two of her eggs I had to assist.

Good Morning Friends !

Not a dumb idea... Not something I would do personally just because I feel like its so fragile already I don't know how painting the styrofoam would work? Will it make it harder possibly chip off and take some of the styro with it? I baby mine and keep it put UP when not in use and its going to be normal for it to get a little beat up with us getting in and out of it, I always try to handle it like its an expensive piece of fine china lol! (I really don't own any just an example)

FYI everyone...... BOTH OZ and Myself had fallen victim in this eBay sellers scam, unbeknownst to each other too..... be careful who you buy from, don't be afraid to ask questions!

Some types of paint will eat through styrofoam, so be careful. They just melt it sort of... Not sure why. I know spray paint will reduce styrofoam to a puddle of goo
