Ive read all of 101 and hit a few parts several times again and again. I have all the eggs marked and am going to pip the rest when the heat gets back up. I think most of them are still alive.
given all the drama of this hatch, I say you are doing really well Doug. Hang in there.

You will be one of the experts by the next hatch.

......

I have killed my share of chicks trying to help. With day 23 and your bator running at a low temp for the whole of the hatch, these guys are probably just at day 21 on a normal hatch.

My thoughts are, if you pip them, you probably need to ensure a very high humidity. If they are not quite ready, you would want to mimic he humidity inside the egg. This is where I have started vicious cycles of membrane problems. The magic number of 70% is OK for normal stage eggs that are doing their own thing but if they are not ready, they need a much higher humidity until they veins decrease and the chick starts pipping themselves.

Not proven - just my thoughts.

Still having to adjust it I have even taken a plug out! If I dont ettle it I.m going to load the eggs into my hatcher bator! I'm worried that its going to decide to spike while im asleep!I keeps creeping up! i'm moving it half a turn now to get it to click off but 39.6 so .6 over and that is totally accurate!

I'm going to love you and leave you guys early tonight. I'm exhausted. See you tomorrow and behave yourselves

Lets recap. I had 38 eggs that were supposed to hatch Thursday. I have a still air incubator. I incubated at 99.5 and not 102. I took them out of the turner on Monday and added water and got the humidity to 75%. ON hatch day. Only three pips and nothing hatched. The next day we had a few hatch with some assistance. I killed a couple in this process. We had 4 die in the hatch process or after the hatch. Today we had four more hatch. One died in the egg with half its body and head out. I thought they were done so I started to open one a little bit ago and it looked bloody. but it looked dead. I opened another and it moved and then I noticed the first one was moving. So I probably killed two more. I left them in the shell. I tried to candle and I couldn't see any movement in most of them. The ones with no movement are the ones I tried to open just now. These are Buff Orpington eggs. The humidity is at 75%. I can hear one chirping now. Today is day 23. I have 13 chicks that I took out and put into the brooder that are doing great. I have 20 eggs left counting the two I just tried to open. I damaged the membrane in the process and it is bleeding a little. I guess I should be more patient. This is my first time to use these Styrofoam incubators. The only one I used in the past was my dads top of the line incubator that was automatic and had great hatches and kept the humidity and heat at exactly what was needed. The hatches were always like clockwork and were usually over in a day. This is the third day of hatching and its still not over. Are any of these chicks that are still in egg going to make it? Should I wait for two more days before assistance. None are pipped. Exercise patience and leave them alone or what? Thanks
i would wait a couple of more days but thats just me ...

I am now the proud owner of, a light sussex, easter egger, maran and brown leghorn. Going to farmers market on saturday is dangerous

OUR FIRST White silkies are here! YAY Juliet is a mom FINALLY!! YAY I don't have to shave her butt! we have 1 death, a pretty blue silkie too the one I had to pull its head out, again this is why I HATE assisting malpositions that haven't internal pips! we have 4 silkies out 4 brahma out and 1 brahma that pipped wrong is still resting! CONFESSIONS..... I am double stacked and no wafer came yesterday, so no coolerbator this weekend. And NO oz I only put the blue/green eggs in the bator the rest I cant even give away, they are still on the counter waiting for someone to love them : ( and then there are those maran eggs under the cochin hen, next lockdown is Wednesday of silkie and brahma and again ALL 17 ancona duck eggs are fertile, as well as three turkey eggs
Babies yahhhh!!! With all the eggs piled up how do u turn, isn't it a pain?

I am wondering if i even want to try to incubate.....it seems like there is so much that can go wrong
SOmetimes stuff does go wrong but it can be so worth it !!!! I have had good hatches and bad hatches but can't help for trying ... and with all the good advice and information you can get ... well go for it !!! it can be scary and nerve wracking but babies are so awesome when they are yours !!
