I think I'm going to sleep. Miller Lites kicking in. NITE!!
That's great
Omgeez. I had 17 eggs make it to lockdown. Today I came home seriously disappointed I had to be gone this afternoon.... 15 chicks and TWO zipping now. All hatched!!! Holy chicks! And all I wanted was 2! I'll post a pic in a bit. I have 16 dark birds and one golden nugget.
Awesome
Quote: Great idea.
Quote: Woohoo
I will add, that since ... I think it was cochins got me on to the "grow gel" for chicks I am hooked, they devour that stuff, and if I have a weak chick and it at least chirps I can get a little pc in her mouth so she can swallow it by herself so I don't force water down into her lungs... LOVE LOVE the stuff..... I got mine on ebay....

I gotta run.... maybe coch can hook yall up with a few links that sell it..... I think I got mine on ebay....
Love that stuff.
I am having a few regrets at selling of my duckies : (

Baby ducks are sooooooo messy.

Thanks for that reminder Doug!! I KNOW IT WELL, good thing most of the ducks are sold and not hatched yet!!

I'm cleaning out the bator to put the shipping eggs in. Do you think I can leave the eggs set till tomorrow morning. Or should they really go ing no more than 24 hours??

Now I did read the 101 on shipped eggs, but does everybody really not turn them for 6 days?? Seems a long time. I guess I'm just use to turning them all the time.

OK, I have not changed suggestions on that article YET!

but I am finding............

IF THE AIR CELLS are still intact = turn and set as usual (if you have a turner you may want to loose it for a few days and hand turn, I know I know.... hand turning uggggg)

anyways....

IF YOU HAVE rolling air cells or loose air cells (jiggly rolling half way) upright in a carton and don't turn for 24-36 hrs.
Now I don't want to confuse things but I have started to turn them in the carton GENTLY right away. meaning block of wood under one end of the carton moving to the other side at turning. GENTLY 3x day and I am finding I have more live loose ones than not turning. this is not completely tested yet, not sure if others started this or not??????? maybe someone else has input????

oz,
hill
anyone?

The small porus eggs I have no idea. Can't see an air cell on top of the eggs. The 4 big brown ones have a floating air cell. During hatch I keep them in the cartons and just rock my eggs on a 1x2. That way I don't have to hand turn them. Know what I mean. I just may leave them set for another 12 hours until tomorrow morning. Then put them in there. If that's ok with everybody. And just rock them like I do with all my other hatches. And this time I'm going to lower bator by 1 degree. So I can get the hatch date on time. They always hatch 1 even 2 days early.

If you are having success just a day early, Personally, I wouldn't mess with it.

Sally, that's a round cushion made out of burlap with the french motif on it. It has a handle on the side so you can carry it somewhere and then sit on it on the floor. I'm just glad the chicks didn't poo on it while I took their pics. The rug in the background with french cursive writing on it came from Ballard Designs in Atlanta and it's an indoor/outdoor rug so it can be cleaned easily (with a 10 year old boy, a rabbit, a cat and chickens I need easy clean). I nearly furnished my whole house from the Ballard Design Outlet store in ATL! Lol. I live in the panhandle of FL but I go to ATL once a month for a weekend for my son to see his dad. I'm a single mom and I love sweet chaos my boy and furbabies bring to my life. I have a small garden in my fenced back yard and I have fruit trees planted all around my small lot. I live in town in a subdivision. I have 6 citrus trees (satsumas, lime, lemons, tangerines, and kumquats) along with cherry, pear, plum, and fig trees. I also have about 6 blue berry bushes of varying sizes and a blackberry patch. :D I work full time in child protective services in our county.

My first egg from my Barred Rock in my bed of greens. She didn't lay it there, I just put it there to take a pic.

This is part of my raised bed garden with peas and cabbage. My pea vines are just loaded with peas that I pick each day. :)

Dang. its been to cold for a garden in North Arkansas so far. I put some stuff out and a lot of it froze. Hopefully, my tomato plants made it this last round of cold weather.
