How neat! My husband is stationed at FLW now. He will retire from there and we're gonna stick around for college kids and civilian employment on the fort.

It's a great area to live in. What MOS is your hubby? My dad was a combat engineer. Helped build the lake out there and then stuck around to be range cadre at the dustbowl for the AIT kids until he retired. I wonder if they're still training the engineers out there? Last I knew, they had moved the MP school out there. I was in one of the last MP classes to go through that school when it was at McClellan, before they decommissioned the base. Gah, makes me feel SO old.

I bet that area of MO has all really grown out since I was last there in '91.

Best of luck to you and your family.

:clap  I would think so!

:D

I have some questions to consider:

  • What sort of quail does the quail hunting business want? Cotournix will be no problem but you may need permits to breed/sell/release native quail
  • How many quail do they want per week/month? Your initial 50 may become your breeding stock. Buying eggs at 35cents will eat into your profit. A quail cage with 20 females and 10 males will give you 100+ eggs per week in a few months
  • If you are going into this - also try and sell the establishment on chukar. You may increas your sales.

120 quails eggs fit on a turner. A good investment if you are going to do this regularly. Also your bator looks sweet but try and get a thermostat and fan (total less than 30 bucks) - you wont regret it in the long run.

Oh um... I don't have very much room to keep quail. I live in the town limits in like half an acre of land. Plus, my parents don't want any more birds so it'll be hard enough to get them to let me keep one or two, let alone 50. I don't think I need a permit but I will ask.

if you get a commitment for orders, you may be able to sell it to your folks

a breeder box for quail is not big. 8 feet x 2 feet x 12" box will easily grow out 50 quail

I completely agree, and again I am a day late and dollar short! But hey when I read you post I emailed a "beagle" gal locally. Her son played soccer with mine so we keep in touch. She said chukar are the most popular for training in the field.
