No I didn't... If it happens again, I'll be sure to take pictures.

I don't have very much time for research (I need to study for finals) but so far, I haven't been able to find anything about mold or fungus growing INSIDE eggs.

when you candled did you see any porous holes or any slight cracks? also was the air cell larger than the other egg you had in? I have a feeling it was somewhere open even tiny spot

No, I didn't notice any cracks or porous holes. I candled it a lot before I opened it and other than the dead embryo and the bubbles, it appeared to be a good egg.

I don't think that there is anything I can do. I'll just have to wait and pray that it doesn't happen to another egg.

The weirdest part was all of the bubbles.. The air cell appeared to be in tact...

NPIP testing today...finally after trying to get a tester out for 2 months.

Cochins-that is really weird about the mold. I hope it is contained and the rest of your eggs are fine.

What is npip testing for?
National Poultry Improvement Plan - aphis

The development of the NPIP was initiated to eliminate Pullorum Disease caused by Salmonella pullorum which was rampant in poultry and could cause upwards of 80% mortality in baby poultry. The program was later extended and refined to include testing and monitoring for Salmonella typhoid, Salmonella enteritidis, Mycoplasma gallisepticum, Mycoplasma synoviae, Mycoplasma meleagridis, and Avian Influenza. In addition, the NPIP currently includes commercial poultry, turkeys, waterfowl, exhibition poultry, backyard poultry, and game birds. The technical and management provisions of the NPIP have been developed jointly by Industry members and State and Federal officials. These criteria have established standards for the evaluation of poultry with respect to freedom from NPIP diseases.

it is the National Poultry Improvement Plan. They come out and test your flock for Pullorum-Typhoid and I think Avian Flu. It is more for people who are serious breeders (hatcheries) or showing birds. Keeps you from having to test each bird you show before each show.
