I was actually thinking of really dark brown.

Maybe a barnevelder. I really like the profile of sussexes too. Hmm, maybe I'll get both

What are your opinions? Has anyone had/has a barnevelder of sussex chicken(s)? Egg colour isn't too important to me. I just want one that is known to be friendly and lays a good amount of eggs a week.

Well since you know a really good "market" I think you should be practicing with that new bator BEFORE you get the good ones!!! LOL HEY now think about that sumigal!!

I'll see what eggs I can get, but I don't want to hatch chicks just for the heck of it. I've got enough chickens! LOL I just want to get some breeding stock now.

Sussexes are better layers, I think. Mine are pretty friendly. Took a while to warm up as chicks but the older they get the nicer they seem to become. Barnevelders are pretty though..

Hope you get some good ones. My first couple of hatches were for practice but they're all practice really. No way to predict that a particular hatch will do better than another. I feel blessed with each egg that hatches a chick!

My Uncle had some but I haven't had any myself. They were mellow and kinda quiet. Very pretty hens.

Update for today :
8 have hatched 7 standards and the lone bantam. 17 left to go bunch of pips and zips big enough i could see em being half blind lol
