in the reg coolerbators we have the drain plug open, then we have 3 half inch holes one close to the fan and then about 10 small say 1/4" holes along the top of the bator. I also couldnt find any suggestions to ventilation so I took a guess by looking at my styros, they have numerous holes in the bottom, then then the two large on top. so I just added more lol

Trying to quote and find you more info on still air, I will have to change that hatching 101 after I research all this. I have never had a still air either.

You are using a probe inside a bag of water or something? your trying to get internal temps of an egg at that level

I thawed out a booboo pack and folded it in half and its working great for internal temps

or are you taking temps at top of the eggs laid sideways or upright?

The temperature in still-air" incubator is measured using a thermometer with the bulb positioned at the same level as the top of the incubating eggs. The recommended temperature in this type incubator is 102o F. The reason for different temperatures is that circulating air warms all points around the egg shell while still air temperatures are warmer at the top of the egg than at the bottom. Therefore, increasing the temperature at the top of the egg will compensate for the egg's cooler parts. The same average egg temperature of 100o F can be maintained (for the entire egg) if the higher temperature of 102o F exists at the egg's uppermost point.

as you can see no where does it say anything different for layed eggs or upright eggs. I think the best thing you can do is attempt getting internal temps. even sticking the thermo inside a small ziplock with water with rubberbands to make it round and add the end of the thermo to the center

Sally, the diluent should remain unrefrigerated. You put the little vial with the powder in the fridge but you keep the big bottle of pink liquid at room temp. When you vaccinate, you take the little vial out of the fridge and let it come to room temp, then you take some of the diluent and put it into the vaccine vial, then you suck all of the liquefied vaccine out of the little vial and inject that into the big vial and you're good to go.

What kind of needles do you have? I have found that I need a 27ga for mixing the vaccine, but for actually administering the vaccine, I go to the CVS and get a box of U100 #30's. The needles on those are so much smaller and easier to get just under the skin, plus the vaccine doesn't leak back out of the hole because the hole they make is so much smaller than a 27ga needle.

ok thanks, we dont have the dilutent in the fridge just the vaccine. I have to see what all we have in the puppies cabinet, we give our own vaccinations to them. well my husband is in charge of them.

Wait a minute, I just noticed something. I went back several pages and I haven't seen OZ for awhile.
he is detained in CA with his lovely wife, and he has abandoned me on the thread most times as have many others like you!

Thank you! I think I may need to add some more holes to my fridge hatcher...

I am busy but here every now and then.

Follow the instructions on the packaging for mareks.

I am not sure about room temp dilutent.

The most important thing is you only have an hour from the time you mix it until it deteriorates so make sure you have help.

I box up my Chickens and then inject and release into another box.

I don't use such small needles. I use a 1/2" by 25 ga for injecting. 15 birds per syringe and needle. Thinner needles tend to bend too readily. Just my preference
