PLASTIC BAG EGG STORAGE!!! http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayAbstract?fromPage=online&aid=618820

Temporary heating before incubation and enclosing eggs in plastic bags during storage improves hatchability, especially when storage is prolonged. A high humidity during storage also improves hatchability, probably due to a reduction in water loss. The changes in albumen pH during storage are discussed in so far as they provide a possible explanation for relationships between environmental conditions during storage and hatching results.

uggggg why cant I read these abstracts!!

More chickiesssss!

Went to TSC again and couldn't help getting more. Now I have 17 chicks and 3 ducks (how could I not bring home some Pekins?)

6 Golden Comet - pullets

6 Tetra Tint - pullets

5 Dixie - straight run

3 Pekins - straight run

Effects of inverting the position of layers eggs during storage on hatchery performance parameters

CONCLUSIONS
Storing eggs with the small end up is an alternative method to improve hatchability and to reduce egg weight and hatchling weight losses in eggs derived from young and old breeders stored up to 14 days.

ABSTRACT

When eggs were held in the small-end-up pack position without turning, their hatchability was equal to or better than that of eggs packed small-end-down. When eggs were stored in the small-end-up position for 2 to 4 weeks, it was, not beneficial to turn them daily as had been previously demonstrated to be advantageous for eggs stored small-end-down. Thus, the inconvenience and expense of daily turning can be avoided without loss.Evidence is also provided that hatchability was equally good whether eggs were stored on their sides and turned through 180° daily or stored small-end-up without positional change.

psss ran accross that pdf while trying to help a friend figuring out vaccinations.

PS @ozexpat I had completed my studies on the air sacks with the plastic bag storage and incubation and little end up storage. I HIGHLY SUGGEST IT. You can store eggs weeks little end up unturned after you let them set a day in a 75-80 degree room then pu them in a STYRO (not paper) STYRO egg carton in a TRASH BAG and then in a COOLER in a COOL room, est temp 45 degrees. And have excellent hatch rates and believe it or not the air cells remain almost as laid! TRY IT test a few, if you have to control humidity in the cooler add a sponge on the outside of the bag in the cooler. Even the tiny serama hold their life and weight! This is very important especially makes for shipping even three day old eggs more viable.... take this to that thread, and please remind them, they are packing eggs in all that stuff that is just SUCKING the water weight right out of those eggs! they need some proof, plenty of proof in this thread and even in some of those links I just quoted front for my use in my site. ;) thought I would share what I had been doing while I cant do much else! Serama eggs have internal pips this morning and set for well over a month downstairs, pretty cool. yea in a bag.

Welcome back!

I know this might sound crazy, but I'm almost 100% positive that the shipped peafowl eggs I got from PA were accidentally packed and shipped small end up. Four hatched, one died late and the sixth was clear.

Kathy, after giving away my other peachicks dont know how two others jumped into that bator last batch, hubs hatched them and well, they are pretty big out in the wood shed with his pheasants! I have no clue what they are breed color mutts or what! will get pics and see what you think, how long till you can tell what they are? and coloring they will be?
