Halo is gone, I am fine we weren't that close, he has always been a weird one, only wanting food from me, he didn't like restraint in holding.
DH put him out of his misery before I even got awake this morning. I knew it should have been done last night, but I couldn't do it and DH was already in bed.
Thank God for DH! I have turned into the most mushy hearted nitwit ever,
thank goodness I don't have a macadam drive anymore that I will need to jump over the worms after a good rain!

its a sad part of life. I am glad he is out of pain.

Sorry for your loss my dear friend.

Thanks oz, I know I just don't think I should play God, its a tough decision, one DH took for me.
How weird we are as meat eaters and then this.... still don't get myself lol

Sorry Sally,

The only chickens we've had to put down were an evil rooster that sent my neighbor to the ER, and a meat bird (ironic) that was attacked by our turkey. My DH spared me by taking care of it himself.

Oh Sally, I am so sorry. That is never easy. We are meat eaters too, and I was planning on raising any Roos we hatched for meat. I am a country girl, used too that kind of stuff but now that they have hatched I think I have become too much of a softy. At least he is not feeling anymore pain!

Sorry Sally! I read a blog once about a city girl that became a farm girl and she soon realized that with having farm animals you also get dead farm animals. Not an aspect of farm life anyone wants to deal with but death is just a part of it. I don't know why we get so attached to our chickens but we do. I think more so for the ones we hatch out ourselves.

Random thoughts and not really sure why I remembered that blog just now. I need more coffee.

I'm so sorry Sally

Silly me, I feel like crying now! But Halo was special. He started this thread... RIP little guy

Quote: I checked on the first 2 wrong end pippers, they're not ready to come out yet... It's been nearly 2 days, so I will check them again this evening. One of the others looks like it's thinking about zipping, so I think we'll have #3 hatched soon. In the meantime we managed to get #1 so spoiled. It yells it's head off and jumps up and down when it sees me. Really cute, but distracting while I'm busy examining eggs! Kiddo carried it around and played with it this morning, letting it run around the lounge. So now it doesn't want to stay in the brooder... I must get us some ducks for keeps. They're are adorable.
