I understand the other opinions, but if Halo is still eating and drinking and seems willing to go on, then I would give him time so that he has a chance to adapt. Chickens are amazing creatures and have a great will to live.

Did you start a thread for him? Maybe others on BYC could give you ideas on possible treatments.

Pics:

MAGNIFICENT COMB AND WATTLES! :D White earlobes too.

I was holding Sophie by the top of the cage to get a picture, and Basil came up to be with her! (Sophie is shy and was distress peeping because she is scared of me)

And when I put Sophie back in, Basil decided she wanted out!!!

Girl on the left, boy on the right?

She is getting huge! Holy! Still another month until I get some eggs from her!

So, do you think I have two girls and a boy??? (Sophie being the boy-ish looking one with the short, brown feathers) If Sophie is a boy, he is a very friendly one! I am prepared to change his name to Sammy or Sam if needed.

Hope is making these very long buuuuuuuurk sounds.... What does this mean?? XD If I make fake clucking noises or don't let her climb all over the keyboard (which she is trying desperately to do) she gets in my face and stares while going "beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrk buuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrk" and I push her away from my face and pet her. i have had her peck my eye once before and it wasn't fun. lol
Sweetness!

Quote: all yes's DH and I discussed I will clean his but as needed and give hem more time, he started antibiotics what I had is the tylan. so we shall see.
On another note.... jinx on the rooster charges! Romeo the white silkie roo started attacking the kids, I told them to go get a white silkie hen for pics with the tiara on for the tiara contest and he just want nuts, so I went in and took one and he didnt do anything but come and look for food! no more kids in the silkie pen!

Oh also, while we were at the chicken place yesterday, I almost bought this amazing mille fleur rooster but unfortunately it's illegal to have a roo in my town ): and turns out I had just missed the hens they had by like only an hour!

no but to be honest, I think I read plenty and a break needs time to heal so as long as he still eats drinks and sits upright I will let him in the lowerlevel. Thank you cochins

But Halo's not just any chicken... Listen, if it comes to that I'll look for some threads a friend of mine started. She had a special needs roo that couldn't walk. I'll send you the link(s). But not now..

I have a duckling!!! OMG it's adorable!

I'm going to go watch the incubator for a bit. And I'll try and get pics for you.
Woohoo! Go duckies!
in all seriousness..... I started to add a cup of scratch in my pocket, my roos know I am for sure not an enemy! Now if the kids would remember to grab some before running like mad hens into the run we would be ok!
The food only holds the terrorist off for so long.
If I didnt have dogs that hunt birds I could keep him in the house, as it is, its been frightening several times with kids leaving doors open!

so if I get rid of dogs and kids hmmmmmm
Hmmmmm now you have me thinking.

Hello! Sally and Sumi invited me to join this lovely thread. Looks like a fun bunch!
I am a Mom with 2 kids, 7 hens, and live in the country. I just had my first hatch, and between LOTS of shipping problems and 1 successful and 1 not so sucessful assisted hatch, I have a learned a ton in the last few weeks, even if I still feel clueless. We got 6 baby chicks last week and had 1 special guy hatch today (it was the lone survivor of 15 smashed eggs). We have a accidental staggered hatching going on still and they are due this Friday and then next Friday. Anyway, I just wanted to say Hello and introduce myself!
