We had State Farm come about 6 months ago but they only did an outside inspection and they didn't say anything about my duck coop or the kiddie pool I have too. Our yard is completely fenced, you can't see the coop (5 1/2 feet x 3 1/2 feet & about 5 1/2 feet at the highest pointed the roof) from the road though, we have a no trespassing sign on the gate, no electrical cords either and I only have the one coop with no run.

I've got 5 running around and two more that are close but I don't have any more pipped eggs. And I have one that is dead in the egg. Do I just wait?

Chick is about to peep, air cell is on the side of the egg. chicks bill is at the other side in hatching position, day 18 pekin bantam. Any chance he will make it without the air cell oxygen supply??

QUESTION!

I left the house on Sunday after an emergency phone call and am now just getting home today Friday my daughter turned my eggs for me but can somebody post a pic of a 7-8 day candle? I just don't know what im looking for. i'm seeing dark blobs and there was movement in one....maybe im too stressed to see anything?

I left sunday and returned today with a malnourished 7 week old baby...so I haven't settled in enough to focus on these little eggs in my incubator....


Anybody?

We have had state farm for 13 years and have never had that notice. I would call your agent and ask about that.

I have a call in! and if they want to come I will request an appointment for sure!

And remove all electrical cords left from winter too! you know living in the woods is different from the city and people forget this. Its not often we get any visitors or anyone knocking at the door! we put a used shed up on the property and from purchasing the permit it triggered the county to come reassess the property, well they wondered around the property and here I was gun in hand wondering WTheck was going on! and a bit frightened for sure!

SATURDAY!!!!!!!!!! I dont know if I can wait that long! I think I can hold off till tonight.... and I am using ALL of my will power

.... but hamburgs normally hatch out a day early for me anyways, right alonside by bantams... so they should be right on if they are added within 24 hours to these eggs

Absolutely adorable, I CAN'T WAIT!!

No lower then 26, no higher then 35. The ones that were stuck, were ones that were hatching after I thought they were done. The extra cup of water was dryed up. Only one started shrink wrapping and i think it was because i opened it i tried the mister thing, but I think i did it incorrectly. Two of them had a litttle to much fluid in the bottom of the egg shell. I keep wondering if it is because I put that liner on the wire. I always have better hatches when i dont cover it. But I worry about them getting their feet cut on edges. Maybe if i tape the edges with duct tape, they wont get cut and humidity can flow better. What do yo guys think.

I NEVER WORRIED ABOUT MY EDGES, DO THEY STICK UP? THEN TAPE THEM YES, BUT DONT MESS UP BATOR!

VENTILATION (OXYGEN)
Ventilation is VERY important during the incubation process. While the embryo is developing, oxygen enters the egg through the shell and carbon dioxide escapes. The embryo's oxygen requirement will increases during development and especially just before hatching when they begin lung functions. Unobstructed ventilation holes, both above and below the eggs, are essential for proper air exchange.

HOWEVER New Studies (Show Dr.Bramwell Discussion) have found that a slight decrease in oxygen the first 10 days (ONLY the first 10) creates a natural higher CO2 level which will naturally build in the incubator and add a little stress to young embryos which will force the embryo to survive and grow stronger, hatch earlier, hatch larger, grow stronger, grow faster and yeild more muscle mass at 6 weeks of age. PUT THE VENT PLUGS IN FOR THE FIRST 10 DAYS ONLY and then REMOVE ALL VENT PLUGS for the rest of the hatch! NOTE: When Lockdown occurs, vent openings are frequently restricted in an attempt to boost incubator humidity. Instead of helping the chick hatch, the chick is suffocated from lack of oxygen. Never decrease ventilation openings at hatching in an attempt to increase humidity. Increase humidity by other methods. If any vent adjustments are made, they should be opened more. Try adding a dampened sponge or towel to help boost humidity during lockdown.​

This was day 22, but the one that hatched, pipped the day after lockdown and hatched on day 20. Same with my Easter hatch. The only chick to hatch actually hatched out on day 19, so I was thinking my temps were too high.

This hatch, the one that did live pipped and had made no progress 24 hours later. She was trying hard to zip, but didn't seem to be able to move. I feared she may be sticky, so jacked the humidity up. I ended up trying to help her out by chipping along the shell as if I was zipping for her with a probe through the vent holes, then she was able to get herself out of the egg. There was no excess moisture with her. Everything looked normal. I did think there was a bit much fluid in the egg, but the air cell didn't seem to have any. One of the others was a bit drier than her, but two others were pretty wet as well... Did I drown them by jacking up my humidity at the end??

Could have, but I have never seen it at the end, and sometimes mine is up in the mid 80's when I look during hatch.

Sooo, the first chick is running around like mad, the egg on the upper right is making a lot of progress, the chick in the upper left egg just started pecking again, and the lower left one is just sort of sitting there. Is the pip on the lower left egg even big enough to let the chick breathe?

If your not sure and if it makes you feel better, you can use a mister and light mist the side or top of the bator NOT EGGS and use a steril pin and just make a small TINY TINY hole with the pin, to be sure. DONT pin the chick lol

As some as you know I work in the medical field. To make an accurate diagnosis we need as much information as you can provide.

This is an expanded set of questions posted in another thread by chicknmama

To help you we will need as many of the details that you can provide.

What kind of incubator do you have?

Still air or Force Air?

What day the eggs are the eggs currently on?

How did you follow their progress:
Did you weigh them and track the weight loss and growth of air cell?
How often did you candle?

Temperatures:
What were your incubation temps?
Did you use a calibrated thermometer?

Humidity:
What was the humidity history of the hatch thus far?

Hand turned or auto turner:
If hand turned - did you roll them back and forth, always the same direction or end to end?
When did you stop turning?

What type of eggs/birds?

Shipped or local or your own eggs from your flock:
If local how old?
How was the packaging?
Were there any bad weather patterns in the path of the shipping?

I have 28 chickens and 12 ducks all together in the same area. Will the others hurt the baby chicks????
They are able to follow mom but as of now I closed the coop door. I also placed food and water inside with them too.
There are 6 more eggs to go. Staggered hatch different chickens. Should I pull out the bator and hatch the rest myself?
I did not want to interfere

and compromise the others. What to do????

I don't have an answer, I was paranoid so I removed her to the shed with her chicks in a box! If your second guessing please move her and the chicks!

My best guess only going by experience, but not State Farm- When they came here last year, they said nothing about the coops. We are zoned ag though, so that is how they insure for my area. They expect us here to have animals.
a. Can they be seen from the road?
b. Are you completely fenced all the way around? With No Trespassing signs?
c. Is there any extension cords running to them from house or garage?

a. Could be considered an attractive nuisance, but doubtful....
that usually applies to pools and /or ponds, swing sets, play houses, anything that can attract a child and then could get hurt.

b. If you're fenced completely, no one can just walk on your land to have a looky loo without trespassing-- Local Law, don't know about in PA

c. No electricity cords, no fire hazard. If you do have, remove them if you can till after the visit.

The second chick is completely clear of its shell now, but has a little string of clear-ish yuck dragging around behind it. Normal? Sorry for the flood of posts!

that sounds normal have a pic or did it already fall off, no bleeding right? if there is blood just blot and squeeze those cords with a sterile gauze or something. try to keep other chicks from pecking at it.
