oohh .. candled a bit ago ... 7 yes 7 out of 11 viable and growing .... one is a maybe that i left in ... the other 3 were obviously clear and porous and nada happening so went ahead and pulled them ....
sadly my duck eggs were a bust ... the one that had possible veining with closer inspection it was very fine cracks that were inside and not showing on the outside... oh vay !!! so i went ahead and tossed them as well seeing as they were all clear too and quite a few were already a little odiferous (sp??) so decided to give up on that idea ....
but im ok with that was a very long shot anyway ... 2 more mallards are coming next thurday and ma the duck has a younger man in there with her so one day later on i should be able to hatch more pekins too !!!!

Lets recap. I had 38 eggs that were supposed to hatch Thursday. I have a still air incubator. I incubated at 99.5 and not 102. I took them out of the turner on Monday and added water and got the humidity to 75%. ON hatch day. Only three pips and nothing hatched. The next day we had a few hatch with some assistance. I killed a couple in this process. We had 4 die in the hatch process or after the hatch. Today we had four more hatch. One died in the egg with half its body and head out. I thought they were done so I started to open one a little bit ago and it looked bloody. but it looked dead. I opened another and it moved and then I noticed the first one was moving. So I probably killed two more. I left them in the shell. I tried to candle and I couldn't see any movement in most of them. The ones with no movement are the ones I tried to open just now. These are Buff Orpington eggs. The humidity is at 75%. I can hear one chirping now. Today is day 23. I have 13 chicks that I took out and put into the brooder that are doing great. I have 20 eggs left counting the two I just tried to open. I damaged the membrane in the process and it is bleeding a little. I guess I should be more patient. This is my first time to use these Styrofoam incubators. The only one I used in the past was my dads top of the line incubator that was automatic and had great hatches and kept the humidity and heat at exactly what was needed. The hatches were always like clockwork and were usually over in a day. This is the third day of hatching and its still not over. Are any of these chicks that are still in egg going to make it? Should I wait for two more days before assistance. None are pipped. Exercise patience and leave them alone or what? Thanks

I would leave them alone...I think 99.5 is too low for a styro still air bator so it will take them longer to hatch...I tried to open one of my eggs this first hatch and when I started peeling back the membrane it bled a little, so I wet a piece of toilet paper and covered the spot. The chick later hatched on its own a whole day later than the other chicks, but every egg that made it to lockdown hatched, and all the chicks seem to be totally healthy still they're only 2 days old, one day in #18's case...
Anyway your temps were low so it will take a little longer. Try to not mess with them anymore than you have to...and remember this tip I found...wet toilet paper can be a lifesaver...to keep my humidity up while still messing with eggs I folded a wet piece into a thick rectangle and then wrapped it around the vent on my bator, so the thing had to pull air in past the wet paper towel...had to be careful or it would hit 80%...but I was able to do what I felt like needed to be done...

ok! SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO if I dont hear from anyone on here in like 10 mins I gonna wash my dirty eggs in warm running water using a new sponge, dry quickly.... maybe blow dry on cool.... maybe not ???????? I have four eggs... cost me $$$$$ and I cant believe she shipped me dirty eggs!!!!  and it is poo not dirt so I NEED to get them clean.... I think..... and once I put them in the bator... should I .... hummmm.... I mean 'CAN I' wrap the sides in papertowel or tissue to prevent them from touching my other eggs....... VERY dissapointed in them!!!! but I do not want them hurting my other eggs but I paid way too much to toss them

I did read here somewhere to use a little sandpaper to clean them if really dirty. With them being porous, I think I would be afraid to wash with water

Washed mine with water... No issues ... Tiny water, but first I wiped them off with a dry paper towel

OK SALLy SUMI all you knowlegable ppl ....question....
 When eggtopsying an egg..... Can there be blood and red veins and it NOT be alive?

I had some eggs hatched  not many though  out of about 40 an dont know why still dont..perfect everything...Only guess is early on in incubating i took all the old water out as it hadnt been changed due to overlapping incubating in i dont know when although the bator looked clean. didnt hatch in it ever.
Low hatch rates ..maybe that?. Anyway left othereggs  in for 3 more days past ht6ch date ...nothing. Tapped no peep tapped again nothing...opened at the air cell red blood  oozed on some or/ and some red veining!!
. Touched these chicks in the egg..no movmement looked at them no breathing. Thru some out.
DID have one after opening about 15  that peeped   He went back in the bator and all the other eggs  about 6 that i hadnt opened back in
.He was a later dated  chick not the ones im speaking about .  
Ok Today 2 days more went by i take out the same eggs now its like 7 days past hatch...opened them 3 had blood again! no movement  none to the touch either, cold to the touch  but red veins and drop of blood!!
. Put 2 back in bator with wet paper towel  .
Sad and  Confused if i killed them  or worse thru out live chicks   Can there be red blood and red veins and them be  DEAD?
Were they dying so no movement what so ever and cold ? or ??

I am not knowledgable like some but I actually had that happen to me today! The duckling pipped through the lower middle right above its yolk (could actually see the yolk) then turned and pipped even lower on the opposite side but only made it through the membranes not the shell. I opened the top thinking he was still alive and then saw where his second pip was and he had not been able to finish and died. When I was opening it I saw blood vessels on the top membrane where I took the shell off over the air cell so I didn't touch the membrane cause his bill wasnt there then when I saw the dark spot and took the shell off and there was blood! But he was without a doubt not alive. It was sooo Sad. My broody ducks hatch was an absolute NIGHTMARE!! 3 malpositioned (saved 2) 2 crushed (saved one) and 1 tried to rip its cord off in the nest (saved that one) & one pipped and never zipped (found already died still in shell under mom in nest). I'm so glad it's almost over! Only the one crushed one left with distended belly guessing because of being crushed and ruptured yolk.
Update though....the last duckies belly is almost completely shrunk to normal, I think her umbilical will probably fall off on its own but not outta the woods yet.

you guys are definitely turning me off ducks.

If i get these pekins to hatch, I will be putting their progeny under broody scovies and then let luck take its course.

My 2 muscovy hens have 36 eggs between them. We should have ugly wart faced ducklings in a few weeks. Cant wait to put the males in the oven though. yum. muscovy is like nice veal.
