Pssst...Remember, we just found out last night, Sally lays eggs too..

I suppose people remember, poor things. As a middle aged old lady with a range of children, i'm not exactly the cutting figure I once was. Me and the geese look more alike every year! You almost made me cry because I realized how true this is!

Here I sit with a sleeping kid at homedepo while DH grabs me some fence n T posts for the white face Spanish chicks, well not really chicks anymore! But they r in dire need more air, sun n growout space! I hope to stop n get kids some fish from petsmart while we are in town. DH don't know it yet
This is exactly how I manage to get DH to 4 or more stores in one night. It always starts with "We need to run to the grocery store for a few things" .You'd think he'd know by now that the 4 stores later was the real plan all along.

OMGOSH.... I need HELPPPPPPPPPP, I opened my cabinet incubator to add water and and turn eggs before locking down some Muscovy's and a **** egg exploded the minute pulled out the tray, I'm not talking a leak, it

, right in front of my face, green, black goop, oh did I mention the stench

, now the help part and I don't see Sally around. I removed the tray and noticed that there was a lot of pipping action going on, I removed the gross tray, cleaned up the bottom as best as can be, without adding to much disinfect. Will they be alright, I have never hatched ducks before and they are not mine. What should I do. My incubation area smells like someone died in it. HELPPPPPPPP

Oh, I would have completely flipped out. Poor you, UGH!!!

So, I haven't been stopping by here much. I have been pretty consumed by everything going on in Boston (about 30 mins) away from me. Throw that on top of every day life and well, no time.

Anyway,

I posted yesterday about an egg that pipped on the wrong side. Well it ended up completely hatching from the wrong side. It lived outside of its shell for about 3 hours very lethargic and never opened its eyes. It passed away :( it's the first one I lost. Is there something I could have done or is this typical considering the situation?

awwwww I would say if it hatched on its own, perhaps it had other issues out of our hands. Usually if they hatch on their own they are strong little peeps, but occationally you will run into infections, weak birds and such...

Did you see anything wrong at all? did it look big, its navel ok? did it stink and so on? what did the inside of the shell look like? did it have a bleed or anything?

Sometimes they have odd looking bellies from infection.... https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/mushy-chick-disease-yolk-sack-infection-omphalitis

And I am so sorry about what happened so close to home for you, its so terrible and devastating.

Looks like 3 splash silkies are out, one brahma in the brooder and one brahma still resting and then they are done until lockdown on Tues!
Plenty of time to clean the hatcher! YAY!
IDK why that got orange lol

I thought you missed that over on PA yesterday. Motherhen said Sally laid an egg (her hen) and was asking which egg everyone thought was hers. Someone came back with "Sally lays eggs too??? Then it went on "what can't that woman do???" It was pretty funny! So, now, YES, Sally Lays eggs too!

oh lordy, you guys are so much fun!

What should I do with my duck eggs that have saddle shaped air cells? They're on day 7 today!!!
I would keep the pointy end down, and place something in the bator to lean them against...like plastic or a cardbaord egg carton. I have personally seen these be successful, but you really can't keep them flat on the bottem for best hope. (this is like 500 duck eggs later for me)
