I believe they can take a day. Hatching is tiring work!I've only had 2 more hatch.Since the first one at 2. How long does it typically take them to zip after they pip? I see and here them in there but they aren't zipping yet![]()

Quote: I am so sorry to hear this, I would have supported you 100%, I was figuring something was up that you didn't post, but I didnt want to push, you have made the right decision even though it was hard. I pray the next little ones hatch perfectly for you.
You may not realize but you have helped others with your contraption for sure! May I add a link to your images and story to the Hatching 101 article (if I can find it on this thread LOL) So she lives on to help other chicks that need therapy!
awwwww I would say if it hatched on its own, perhaps it had other issues out of our hands. Usually if they hatch on their own they are strong little peeps, but occationally you will run into infections, weak birds and such...
Did you see anything wrong at all? did it look big, its navel ok? did it stink and so on? what did the inside of the shell look like? did it have a bleed or anything?
Sometimes they have odd looking bellies from infection.... https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/mushy-chick-disease-yolk-sack-infection-omphalitis
And I am so sorry about what happened so close to home for you, its so terrible and devastating.![]()

That is true. I thought I was the last to know that too. I forgot that everyone found out at the same time.Quote:After a year of knowing you, I am just finding this out. What else are you hiding, woman?I agree Doug, I refuse to ride anymore. When I was 17 my boyfriend layed his over with me on the back and then we took it in the snow and well, we had another bad. And then I married the fool and in his late 20's he had someone pull out in front of him and he got hurt good, a month later my dad was seriously injured someone pulled out in front of him and to this day lives with pain as almost every bone in is upper bod was broken.
Pssst...Remember, we just found out last night, Sally lays eggs too..

Yep, I think our Dear Sally has been busted skimming!!![]()
Yay!WE GOT A PIP.....
I know some have pips, whats going on...... this is the calm before the storm of chicks! Here's to hoping.![]()
This cracked me up!! Ok. So I have about 8 pips. The second egg that pipped had not changed for hours. Then the little one started pecking at the pip and made a ickle hole. Big enough to put its beak through. Now it's just sitting there kinda going 'ok I'm out now, what gives! Is this it?!' So I'm like is it going to progress. Now everything else that has or just has piped is not doing much else but this one is just chirping so sweetly. Anyways the humidity is just below 70 percent. I have put a hot wad of paper towels over one of the vents also. As this is a fan bator. Does this all seem normal? I really do not want to interfere as I know the humidity will plummet and the amount of pips they will all get stuck.I just realized the new calendar I am using is a FUNERAL HOME calendar! This calendar says one of two things...... Either Sally has an addiction or Sally needs a Little Black Chicken book to show up in her mail box! either way, I can see now why Sally writes the set dates on her eggs instead of X and O's
Oz screw the chicken math ap, we need a MULTI incubation calculation calendar with alarms!

Quote: I'm NPIP, so I can sell babies and ship to zip codes that allow it. I didn't do them all this year. Before the dogs came last fall, I had about 50 khaki laying hens, and I hatched and sold loads of little khaki babies. Also, we have a large Asian population, and there is a speciality market for duck eggs that have been incubated....
I think they discussed those eggs on the PA thread I guess. gross![]()
ha ha ha ha now I have to go read a zillion pages over there don't I!Sally, it was even part of something you quoted. I thought you were admitting to it by not denying it.
jfer it can take anytime between pip and 24+ hrs. Its so hard to put a time frame as all chicks are different. you say you only saw pips at 2 this afternoon? if so you may have them when you wake up tomorrow morning.I've only had 2 more hatch.Since the first one at 2. How long does it typically take them to zip after they pip? I see and here them in there but they aren't zipping yet![]()

I feel for ya! We just had the same exact problem with a chick from the Easter hatch. My wonderful husband did the deed for me when I wasn't even home on Tuesday. I was sad, but I know it was for the better!![]()
Mich you didn't PM me, I am glad he did it for you, but took him long enough! awwwwwww I cant believe it stayed alive this long! We are putting Tiny and a WFS hen down this weekend, it needs to be done, something is wrong with them for sure and I cannot breed them nor would I sell them.
OH don't feel horrible, I have seen mother nature and that is terrible! don't count them as your failures either! It is our loving nature to only expect 100 hatch rates, mother nature is much more cruel even after hatch.![]()
