  Which type of bird?  Quail pip and zip in about 6 minutes.  Chickens about 12 hours or less.  Ducks, a day or so.  Geese, 2 days at least most of the time.  Turkeys, all of the above.

Ok. I have Silkies and Ameraucanas in there. What happens if they don't zip by tomorrow morning? Should I help them out?

Hey Sunny (AKA Sally to ya'll) I also have to write set date on one side and LD/Hatch dates on the other for EVERY SINGLE EGG!!! I also write them on the calander. IT gets confusing in my baters, as I set new eggs in every week, and with the turkeys and geese especially, it's hard to keep track from week to week as they get slowly circulated around the bater.
I agree and what is better than egg in hand and a quick look up at the calendar on the wall!
Yep, I think our Dear Sally has been busted skimming!!
shhhhhhh
This cracked me up!!

Ok. So I have about 8 pips. The second egg that pipped had not changed for hours. Then the little one started pecking at the pip and made a ickle hole. Big enough to put its beak through. Now it's just sitting there kinda going 'ok I'm out now, what gives! Is this it?!' So I'm like is it going to progress. Now everything else that has or just has piped is not doing much else but this one is just chirping so sweetly. Anyways the humidity is just below 70 percent. I have put a hot wad of paper towels over one of the vents also. As this is a fan bator. Does this all seem normal? I really do not want to interfere as I know the humidity will plummet and the amount of pips they will all get stuck.
I think your doing fine! Do you need a straight jacket my dear broody momma?

cell migration... this statement.... "Do not use Peroxide on an open wound – it does strange things to exposed tissue" I know not to use it but I was asked and you were not on very much at the time to answer....... What is the true reason not to use peroxide? and not to use it on navels? adding again, why I wanted to read this "Cell Migration" http://www.shagbarkbantams.com/cell.htm thoroughly is when Dustyn was a baby my mom bought us an old out of date baby walker, well the little man drove 50mph into the bricks that the wood stove sits on and tipped his walker and he layed over with his little fat cheek on the cast iron stove front, It turned black fast, and Hospital ended up telling me that I had to scrub his face several times a day to get the crust off and lather it up and for four weeks of hell, I was so freaking amazed at the progress each time and how it closed up with not a scar NOT A FREAKING SCAR, it ended with a big round reddish color spot on his cheek and eventually that even went away, The human body amazes me!

Peroxide damages good tissue as well

we use what he calls cell migration in hospitals all the time. we call it granulation. we use it on wounds that wont close.

I had a belly wound that we treated like that for 4 months - it eventually grew skin from each side and healed

half strength peroxide is good for cleaning up gross wound infections -
but zinc cream should be placed on the skin edges. i have used it a lot that way

Quote: jfer until Marty answers, this is hard decision, its sorta like answering "what number should humidity be at?"
what you can do is follow the assist article in the morning and create a tiny view hole to investigate, but I am praying they are popping out for you by then!

Haha
Nope not yet. Although I armed myself with a torch in my mouth (lol) and a sponge filled with hot water in one hand. And went in quick to turn that egg over as one of my chicks that just hatched kicked it right over so it was facing the floor! Poor thing. He's getting well battered. Mind I was hoping the force would split some of the shell but nope!! Have three hatch one nearly out just got a teeny way to go. Then can't even count all the pips. But I have got one that pipped the completely wrong end! Seriously you'd think they knew what they were doing in there!
One of the hatched chicks popped out then sat there with half a shell in its head like on the tv. Omg it was soooo cuuuuuuteeee! I think hubby has fallen in love too! And I have not even gone to sleep!!
Still worried about the little one its membrane around the hole is a little yellow and hard.
