One chick has a very deformed leg and feet, there's no saving it. I'm not trying to start a debate, but what is the most humane way for its sake and mine to put it out of it's misery quickly. . I've never done this before but for it's sake I will.

On a positive note with my 15 shipped eggs, 10 made it to lock down with 7 hatching. One of those is the deformed chick so only 6 will make it. Deformed chick pipped at the little end so I think he just developed poorly. Poor wee thing. It looks like there were maybe 1 or 2 of the other eggs where they developed upside down and couldn't pip. I did these eggs in the carton with big end up until I laid them down on day 18.

Oh, how aweful for you. I find the very fastest way is .....

cuddle it first, then use my garden loppers/trimmers to quicly and cleanly remove the head. Its' harder to break its neck, and with the poor little unfortunates, I want it to be quick.

We had to do this the other night, and the advice I got and took was to gently roll it up in a paper towel, find the neck, sturdy scissors, snip, drop it in a bag, and cry. Move on. The paper towel is more for you than the chick, and I honestly preferred it this way, it was a tad easier for DH to do. This was the combined advice of Sally and Oz. It sucks, but "It is what it is"!
