Just got my first pip a little while ago, as we turned the corner on day 20! :) I'm doing a live stream from my incubator, you can find it here: www.homegrowngourmet.org/hatch-cam

I see a little chick! Congratulations!

Poorchickie made a couple of loud chirps and went to sleep. He wasn't right. In the sense that I think his body was partly twisted. Everytime I tried to lay him on his other side it would flip back over. So strange. There was two others the same breed and these were hatched normal. Well I tried. Poor thing. Rip little one.

Thanks for all your advice.

I'm so sorry.

awwwww

Do you remember those frozen chicks I saved? well we had a family discussion last night, We were done with keeping cochin, I am down to 3 adult hens, a black, blue and a splash. Anyways all chicks were to be sold, now this one little chick still has a sideways neck, no pain, eats and gets on well. So I asked DH what he thinks I should do with the chick. He says if its doing fine just grow her out and keep her in the layer pen. Trouble with doing this is that my girls are not very kind to newbies in the coop. So its still up in the air about the little thing. I guess I keep praying that someone will come and I can tell them her story and they will want her. she does look silly and I pray for her that she is in fact a she, otherwise it wont be good for her.

No more cochins? Why not?

Anyways, I hope you find a good home for your little chick. If I were closer to you, I'd take her.

No outright saying NO, but the lady that came last night......

here is this weeks story...

Sunday I had a lady message me wanting a few silkies, I said its first come first serve (learned my lesson on holding even for a week!)
I asked her to call or text before she came Tues in case they are already sold. she said ok. Her son wants silkies to enter eggs in the local fair 4H.

In the mean time a lady that bought a ton of silkies and cochin last month called and asked what I have as she wants more of the partridge bluish silkies and whites or splash if available.
I told her I have 10 at various stages from a 4 weeks to last weeks hatch. I told her she could have all of them for 30 bucks, and I am giving her a pair of serama JUST BECAUSE
she loves chickens and I can tell.... last time she bought all the cochin and silkies I had, but there was one older roo that everyone kept saying no I cant have him he is a roo for sure. Well she felt so bad for this guy she said, I want to buy him too. Well in the end I gave him to her of course along with another splash hen! Like I said I made money on them, since they were my own eggs, not much but I made the woman so happy and now she is coming for all these others! She drives 2.5 hrs one way to come here, and I told her if she wants them all she can even sell them and make a buck or two, good for her!

Kindness always pays you back, and if it don't the Good Lord sets all that straight on his own! Not that I am very religious but I do know what feels right and wrong, and I swear to myself no matter what I need to live by that!

Anyways, the lady text me and I told her the silkies are all sold, all I have is a few splash cochin and one blue cochin chick. She says ok I need to check with the son (7 year old lol) Well ends up my cell is wringing off the table, and here she is parked outside in her fancy car! Calling me and I see diamond bracelets dangling in the window.... I was like ok I know this will be fun. (usually this isn't what I see holding stinky chickens ya know) so I go down and say hello and show her the chicks and she gruntled her nose and told her son to hold it, well he took the exact same look and back away! So I showed her the silky pen and they loved them, and showed her the cochin pen. I basically talked them out of cochin and told her she should find a reputable breeder and find a great quality chicken that will do well in egg shows. I couldn't help her out because I know nothing of it. but I WAS glad to see them leave empty handed, but I think the chickens are still stunned by the smell of perfume and hairspray! Bawahhhhaaaaaaaaaa (not that I don't wear it Occasionally and in less quantity)

I always worry about something this happening. I want to make sure that each of my birds go to good homes. Thankfully everyone who has showed so far has been fairly knowledgeable in poultry.

and that's really nice of you to help out that one lady.

I set my one lonely goose egg this morning. I had saved it for a week in hopes of her laying another one, but she didn't. Probably because of this freak weather. The local high school has had 3 snow days just this month! We keep getting hit with snow storms.
