Ancona Duck Update,

Oz, I did the hole drill, when I checked them last night, ALL of them but one is internally pipped, with no Externals. So I will put this to the test with them. 16 internal pips 16 tiny holes. the one without a internal pip obviously was malpositioned, and I know his chances were slim, so I opened the top and gently found his wing and pulled is head up. HIS HEAD WAS HUGE, no wonder he couldn't turn!
Not sure if he will make it, I didn't get a single drop of blood, so its all up to lung acclimation and prayers! He is so cute too!

16 internal pips getting air, sounds awesome, but PRAY FOR DUCKIES NOW PLEASE!!!! the eggs have been rolling around since Monday! they are all chirpin up a storm to each other! shhhhweeeeettttt

I don't know about anconas, but I know the pekins I hatched took forever, so just check they can breathe and sit on your hands for a bit, hey? I will keep my fingers crossed! The duck eggs I started but couldn't finish have pipped internally also. So I'm waiting for updates from Ireland. Can't wait to see them!

Hey tony, what up?

Not a whole lot really. Started to collect eggs for the next run. But the girls are in a slump. Been very slow with egg laying. Not sure if it's this crazy weather or because of me switching there feed type all the time.

I think it's a little of both. I really need to find a feed and stick with it. I think I have. Once there feed is gone going to go with Southern States feed.

Big changes in the weather can mess the hens' egg laying around quite a bit, as can food changes. I noticed with mine over the years when we had a cool day in the middle of Summer half of them will take the day off. Ditto with thunderstorms. Hopefully they will come right and lay better for you soon!

I realised this morning I need eggs for a dish I want to make tonight. I'm going to have to buy eggs! For the second time in 7-8 years. I got so used to having my own hens and having loads of eggs around all the time, it feels really strange. Luckily we have friends down the road with a free range flock that can spare me some.
