Today's summary 5/6/2013 ~ 5/7/2013 (current as of 807 EST )

Doug was having a pasty butt issue and sought advice .. several of us chimed in with our thoughts and ideas - any luck ? how is the chick doing doug?

chicksooner had an incubationg question for a friend ( post 14798)

Sally's silkie lady never showed up the other day and sally was a little worried ... did ya hear back from her ever ?

There are several adorable pictues of the ducklings sally hatched on post 14801 - the first pic is my fav so far !

Sally advised making sure that attached lighting has zip ties or nails as to avoid a fire hazard if birds fly into them and swing them
doug heeded this advice and went back out to zip tie the lights

motorcyclechick heard cheeping and i believe actually has some hatchlings now
yep post 14926 ..number one is here !!
aww .. but unfortunately lost one to water !! so sorry to hear but yay for more hatching !!

hill was bummed out as only one egg went into lockdown.. but is does look like 8/12 of the others she has in will do into lockdown
elvis ( her bantam cochin roo) has an attitude problem and went into time out
and her leg is doing much better

mikkles thought that it was a bust of getting some sizzle eggs but edited to add that yes the sizzles will be the first shipped eggs in her house !! good luck !!

Sumi was as shocked
ep.gif
as the rest of us that Sally actually had 2 empty incubators !! bet they don't stay that way long (see post 14828) lol

although wingstone did offer to take the eggs sally was comtemplating on setting ...

tony thought it was not too early for doug's birds to be outside as he himself puts them all out at 2/3 weeks

there was a discussion throughout about exactly how much ACV to mix with the water

Wax agreed with tony on 2/3 weeks and out the chickies go!!

rennerae is having some temp issues and asked for advice and was worried about her eggs ( see post 14837)

tony was shocked to see the sun ... he could have kept this cloudy cold weather where he was and sent the sun to us !!

wingstone agreed about putting chicks out and treating them like chickens but admits on some threads they do not like that attitude ...

wax said the sun was coming and going there and is tired of rain as well and said her broilers looked like walking mud balls

picture this only fluffier !!

dougs ducklings seem to be trying to bath n their water rather than drinking it and he asked if having to refill it b/c of their antics was normal - ducks and water = one big mess lol
sally suggested the jug as mentioned in her siggy

gardening mom has an evil 4 day old that is being mean to all the others and has bitten her once - maybe he/she will outgrow the attitude ?!?
wingstone ask if the chick was from Sally's eggs and what was she breeding up on the mountain lol
sally suggested lots of holding and love and if all else fails .. there is an auction somewhere later down the line

doug had some hatching going on but apparently was confused as to which chicks exactly were hatching .. on day 20 no less !

tweetynpetey is having a bad run and we send lots of

but on the brighter side the duck egg that is set to hatch tuesday seems to be wiggling into place early !! go ducky go !!

tony said there is an advantage to clay - water just runs right off !!

motorcycle chick is thankful that on this thread at least we can all discuss stuff rationally and not have it turned heated !!

el pollo said congrats on the baby and asked for an update on doug's hatch ( keep scrolling it is in here el pollo !! )

chicksooner asked how to get her 3 week olds to eat the ff .. drier wet crumbly at first was the answer

confused turtle asked about doing a staggered shipped hatch ot just holding the first eggs until the second one got there ( post 14903) i personally did mine staggered .. some do some don't

hill stated that one shouldnever worry about sharing an opinion because we can all learn !! i second that !

doug share a chicks pic on post 14912
and another on post 14935..look at those babies hatch !! and he is up to 19 out now
nope 26 lol
now 29 !!

and sally shared her friends pup pics on post 14914

cochins in asking for advice she is afraid the mold problem is spreading to her other eggs !!
her thread is here

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/778016/fungus-moldy-growths-inside-eggs

mikkles is in a celbratory mood cause EGGS ARE COMING !!

sally believes her next lockdown is set for friday

tony picked on doug a little and posted some chick pics as well (POST 14944 )

cochins shared a pic of moe the boomerang cl crested drake ... what a cutie

( post 14952 )

sally may have a home for her two oe roos ..actually according to her next post they should be in their new home now ...
yep gone gone gone she says !!

cochins is hoping to get NPIP so she can ship eggs out of state

chicksooner is officially NPIP now !! congrats

rbaker got to shut down her hatcher for awhile but looks like the incubator wont be shut down until july

3D chicken wished us all a good day with the death metal chicken lol
and shared some nice pics ( post 14979)

rennerae is doing the happy dance...
wee.gif
she has at least one fertile serema and one fertile silkie for sure .. update upon further inspection there are 4serema and 4 silkie for sure !!

motorcycle chick is wondering if anyone can give her advice about assisting a chick out or not ( post 14990)

Hi.

I've been following on here, but I don't think I've posted much. I'm having issues finding a thermostat too. I went to Lowes last night, and none of there employees had any idea what I was talking about. I wanted to find one at a store, so I don't have to wait for it to be shipped. I bought a fan on Ebay last week, and it's been in New York, in the same place for 4 days.

What are these thermostats used for? They had water heater ones, and big house AC ones (they only go up to 90 degrees).

Quote: lowe's here does not carry the wafer ones .. only the hot water heater thermostats and i was afraid of getting the wiring wrong and have heard of people having temp issues with them anyway .. sally and tony use wafer thermostats although i am not sure where they get them

TY everyone ...
hugs.gif
tiny was the only rooster or chicken i ever really bonded with here so was not an easy night for me ... but i do have eggs in the bator ... and one could be a tiny junior we will see ... tiny was my first serema and i loved him dearly even when she turned out to be a he !!!

Silver: I'm so sorry Tiny passed away :-(. I wanted to thank you for the summaries, I've been busy the last few days and they have helped me to stay caught up.

She was easy to get out. Took about two minutes. I did take my time, and she kicked and wiggled as I helped. Not clear on what the problem was. She seems fine. She made it this far. I don't see why she would have a problem now.
Here are pics of the other 2.

If nothing else hatches, 4 out of 12 is okay with me. For a first hatch, and using an LG still air (reportedly the worst for hatching) I am proud.

Shouldn't I be?
I will be sorry for the others, but not devastated like I thought I would be. Maybe I am too busy and too tired to feel bad?
