Oh are these your Cinco de Mayo Poults? They probably just think that drinking is a really fun, new trick and they're giving themselves watery poo because they're obsessing over it. Try giving them something else to obsess about. They really seem to need to focus on something. I had mine fixate on a piece of styrofoam that I used to make part of their brooder. I had to distract them by putting a suet block in there for them.

yes, but the hatched last thurs or wed I forget! I have another question I will post pics in a few

QUESTION all three chicks have wingsets different on each side! see pic 1 vs pic 3?
they all have like a few droopy long feathers on one side only??????

My vent gleet article is on home page, they even sent me an email! lol

I hope it helps some hens out there!

I decided to get the chicks out, and into a brooder. I then candled an EE, and opened it. I wasn't shocked that the chick was dead. The aircell was huge. I am wondering if the aircell was the problem. My understanding was that the large aircell causes retardation. She was not done growing. I am wondering if that was due to the aircell or something else?
Also, the 4 that came out (3 very fast) had normal sized aircells when I was candling. Only 2 out of 14 had large aircells. That is when I stopped the dry method, and added enough water to raise humidity to 30-35% after the 2nd week.
I am wondering if the other 7 are going to be dead too, and why?

I can't make my question come out right! How did I get 10 (14-2 early quitters) normal aircells and 2 large using the dry method in a still air, and I only candled three times?
I have confidence in my next hatch (this weekend). I do want to be sure I learned the right lesson!

Ok I am thinking that by dry hatch you did not add any water at all until you upped it to 35% right? I "dry" hatch but keep the humidity about 40-45% and that means that I have to keep water in it. I do let it get pretty dry between fill ups but never let it stay dry.

Quote: I don't think so, I did explain or post for her about using humidity as a tool not a set number. But idk, maybe she didn't see it or quite understand? Weird that some hatched and now this, MC this was staggered?

I was just trying to figure out the over sized air cells. Not enough humidity would make large cells. I understand using humidity as a tool but someone new to hatching probably wouldn't.

IDK. I have to go fly a kite so a kid will stop begging.
