14 chicks this morning. Still 13 eggs. I had to assist the chick that pipped the wrong end. It never made it out and the white membrane was all dried up. I wet everything down and then peeled it out. I have a few pips on the remaining 13 eggs. Will start investigating after church by candling on the ones with no External pips. It's day 22.

Went to the brand new house I built the last 2 days. I had moved to rooster there yesterday. Guess what. The roosting poles are crawling with these darn mites now. Going to spray the poles and walss with Neem oil, then put down some sevn dust on the floor and mix up the pine shavings. Do the same to the hen house. There all over me again from carring to rooster back down to the hens. This is bad.

Still no zipping... Hasn't peeped, but I do see movement. I think he may need assisting. It's been 36 hours. The outer membrane around the pip hole is brown, so every few hours I open the bator and put a drop of water on the membrane.
My little sister said she could have sworn she heard the duck peeping like crazy last night, but I wasn't in the room, so I am not sure if that is true.

Yikes. Weve had chickens all my child and most of my adult life and never had mites. Good Luck

Im thinking start assisting and keep the membrane wet as you go. If you see blood stop. If not keep going.

The neem works as an insect repellent. I bought some to keep bugs from stinging my pumpkins and it really worked. We sprayed it once and had one or 2 stings as apposed to the 100's we normally got. Dilute some dishwash soap and spray that on your aphids.

Well, Sevin, as I said is great. And bathing them I hear, helps a lot too. You know you can always wait until they go sleep and just pick them off the roosts ;)  We used to buy this type of mite/flea dust in SA that we'd pour in a plastic bag, then we put the chicken, one by one, in the bag and shook it. Ended up with a flock of snow white, slightly ticked off chickens, but it took care of the bugs!
. I use the same method with a large feed sack I dust my flock every 3 months I also keep the same dust in there two dirt bath holes they use and replace after any rain the same with the litter in the hen houses , however the litter I use here is some type of native red wood and it seems to repell the bugs well by it's self as for the plants the locals here use a mixture of hot sauce from some sort of local chili pepper it looks like a habanero to me but they call it chilli panamanio here it works well too

After this treatment, I will start to burn some wood and put it in with the pine shavings in there houses. Too windy today to burn.

And wet from rain last night again.
