I have no idea WHY, but my hatcher suddenly dipped down and was reading 96 yesterday. I changed all batteries, confirmed it was NOT the thermometer/hygrometers. Carefully adjusted the bator and got the temp up to 101 (still air) measured at the top of the egg (side laying). It was fine all day yesterday and then this morning I got up and the hatcher said 107!! I opened it to cool it down and adjusted the temp. All day long its bouncing between 98 and 104 - can not get it to stabilize. Finally just decided to candle and only see movement in 2 of the 6 eggs still

Nothing was changed!!! A/C setting the same, positions all the same, dials the same. WHY??? Ugh

I've been attending to my BCM hatch... out of 7 eggs that went into lockdown Friday night, 5 have hatched, and the other 2 have pipped (today is Day 22). Four hatched yesterday, 1 I had to assist this morning, membranes dried out and poor thing was stuck in external pip stage. I could see the outer membrane, tough, white. Opened the air cell up, and chick was just sitting there, chirping away. Realized that it was stuck in the inner membrane, which had cleared its veins. Slid it off the head, and down a bit, and then put it back into the hatcher, to rest and finish the job on its own. Came back 4 hours later and upper half of body had dried off, and it was sitting there in it's half-shell, resting on paper towel, inside a teacup, unable to still move. So, checked, and sure enough... the membranes were so tough on it that it couldn't break loose. Removed the rest of the shell, the membranes stayed intact. Slid them down a bit to free it, and to make sure that everything had been completely absorbed. Everything was good, except the membranes were dry, white, and tough. So, wet them down with warm water, and slid them completely off the baby. Umbilical cord was even completely free, but the membrane was glued to some feathers on it's leg. Loosened them up with a bit more warm water, and baby is now completely free, and back in the hatcher, drying off, encouraging the last two eggs to hatch.

I placed two Lemon Barred Cuckoo Orps in the hatcher last night, so those will be hatching in 3 days. My one from a week ago will have some others of its breed to go with it! Yippee!
