Thanks, Chicks, I managed to keep my bladder under control, can't say the same for my mouth

Now that I look back I can laugh about it, but sheesh, I really need to be careful. We have a lot of snakes here... I think that was the 7th or 8th one we found.

You have lots of deadly snakes. Pretty sure I would carry my 410 with me everywhere if I lived where you do.

Does your chickens eat small snakes? Mine did, twice, crazy little dinosaurs.

I was thinking today, that it may be a good idea to carry a weapon of some sort with me. But I spent a lot of time outside and this was only my second encounter. Knowing me I will carry it around for a day or 2, get tired of it and stop. I'll just have to start paying attention when I'm out and about.

I had a flock of 5 (mixed breeds with a pair of Dark Cornish - rooster to the flock) that I would routinely find bits & pieces of snake in their pen. I knew there was a different taste to their eggs. I don't think they were 'small' snakes as there was pieces left. At the time I was just glad they could protect themselves & eggs from such a frightening predator

I watched My whole flock encircle a snake, then take turns pecking at it till it died, then fighting over who was going to eat it

They are! We had a mouse problem in our old house years ago and catching the little pests proved problematic, so DH got this gun, a .22 (don't know if you're familiar with it? It's a very lightweight gun used to shoot birds etc.) So anyway, one day he was sitting in the kitchen shooting mice

One mouse ran up to the door and stopped so DH took him out, but before the mouse hit the ground one of my young cockerels, ran up, grabbed it and took off with it!

your not that far, COME BUY THE ENTIRE FLOCK! they are in serious molt and I haven't gotten a single egg since the middle of August! seriously frustrating! They don't need bedding as they are making their own down mattress in the coop!
