im not sure how basque are listed now. the population has picked up in the past 4 or so years. its not a great breed though, alot of leg problems and neurological (inbreeding) issues.

Euskal Oiloa is the real name, but no one recognizes it when you say it. they are beautiful birds, larger than i expected. they lay a nice brown egg and are descent layers - just expect alot of loss with them. if you raised a brooder full of just them you might suspect mereks. i would put them with raising extruded skull silkies. i bought the best 3 i could pick out of 50 or so, paid $100 a bird. i have 1 year and a half hen left for $7.50 - if that tells you my luck with them.

edited to add: here is a link to a few pictures.

WOW other than my CCL comb is really high those roos look like him!!! are they related?

i have shipped a few. try not to ship across the mississippi with eggs or chicks, for some reason they dont do well past that point. when dealing with people that far away i try to refer them to another place closer to them, if i cant find one - i will ship but not guarantee past that point. as a rule of thumb i dont ship until march, and when its cold i will put in some grow gel and a heat pack.

do you have a source for heat packs and boxes? and what sizes heat and boxes? I know nothing...

oz I am sure you have some input on this too?

they do look alot alike- but the basques are bigger and lay brown eggs (red earlobes). im not sure if they autosex, i never paid that much attention to them. the CCLs are bred from barred rock, brown leghorn and araucana (i think), the basques are a sweedish breed not a hybrid cross.
