I had an especially sad euthanasia appointment a while back. A litter of puppies had eaten feces from several horses that had been dewormed with ivermectin. Enough of the medication passed through the horse’s body and out in the manure that when the dogs ate the feces, they ingested toxic amounts of the drug.

you really dont want to know about my background

. just realize that i love chickens, and love to help people get their flocks going. stay on my good side and im your best friend - get on my bad side and watch out!!!!

im pretty much the person i "display" myself as on here, i tend to call it like i see it. i will sometimes tell you things you dont want to hear - but only when i think its in your best interest. this has gotten me in trouble more than once with the feds and local law enforcement.

here are the things i normally keep repressed: i firmly believe in making kids mind (spare the rod spoil the child), i have been investigated by the FBI for computer crimes, and the secret service for comments about president Bush, this got me listed as a terrorist threat. i have 2 degrees one in electronics engineering and one in computer information systems both from DeVry. i did take pre vet at Shawnee state, but i have forgotten most of what i learned. as a matter of fact i have forgotten alot of what i learned in all the fields - im guessing it was because i was usually surrounded by smoke. i lived 7 years off the grid, advertising chickens is the only reason i have the internet. (and talking to you guys now). i have worked as a truck driver, sawmill worker, professional gardener, mechanic, painter (cars and food equipment), managed a nursery (plants), worked in retail stores, moved houses (not mobile homes, 2 story houses down the road), and at one point designed video game concepts. i hope to die young, death (and afterlife) does not scare me a bit. i dont go to church now, but i still follow my Quaker and southern Baptist upbringing.

i just get bored easy, to the best of my memories i have only read one fiction book "Misery" by Stephen King. that was for a book report in school. im getting close to 40 and i still love learning. when i get to the point with a job that my mind isn't being challenged, i move to another job.

i must admit chickens have kept me busy learning. between genetics, incubation techniques, and illness i dont think anyone can master it all. if you do, there is always nutrition, trying to make your farm more effecient, showing, and shipping. so far the boredom has not set in.

as far as "getting on my bad side", that's pretty hard to do. i can forgive and forget almost anything, but im also hillbilly. some people might say im crazy, they might be right - but im usually a good kind of crazy.

Ivermectin Toxicity in Dogs


This toxic reaction occurs especially in dogs that are genetically hypersensitive to ivermectin, an anti-parasite medication most commonly used for heartworm prevention, or to treat ear and hair mites, which can lead to mange. Ivermectin prevents or kills parasites by causing neurological damage to the parasite, resulting in paralysis and death for the parasite. But dogs genetically sensitive to the medication have an anomaly that allows the ivermectin to pass the dog's blood-brain barrier and into its central nervous system, which can be lethal for the animal.

While the sensitivity to this type of medication is not always guaranteed, the following breeds are most likely to be affected:

• Old English Sheepdog​
• English Sheepdog​
• Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie)​
• Australian Shepherd​
• German Shepherd​
• Long-haired Whippet​
• Silken Windhound​
• Skye Terrier​
• Collie​

It is also seen in mixed-breed dogs, older dogs that have experienced a blow to the head, puppies, and dogs that have overdosed on similar types of drugs. Treating dogs that are susceptible to ivermectin toxicity with parasitic medication should be only be done under a veterinarian's supervision and with great caution.

Symptoms


Symptoms for the dog may be acute or mild. Acute signs will become apparent within 4 to 12 hours of the drug's administration. In mild cases, symptoms will occur between 48 to 96 hours after your dog has been treated. Such symptoms include:

• Lethargy​
• Depression​
• Drooling​
• Vomiting​
• Dilation of the pupil​
• Loss of appetite (anorexia)​
• Difficulty controlling voluntary movement​
• Disorientation​
• Tremors/Seizures​
• Inability to stand​
• Blindness​
• Slow heartbeat​
• Respiratory distress​
• Coma​

I am a perfectionist and this will be done in 2015 LOL

this is as far as I got.... pages added to leaves LOL I will do a final Merge of layers and edge blending when I have the layout I want. I want to add another chicken or hen peeking from the left side, need images uggggg




I was playing with other images to overlay but gave up for lack of decent images, I will get there, I can snip the rest of the page though, at the bottom is contact and npip stuff.
I decided a plain main page with a small dropdown attached to home that pan over shows the ABOUT US. Keeping it simple as my story is not long lol.

I will add incubations techniques page too, and the research on shipping usps and guarantees and such of live birds is flabbergasting me.

Its my decision to sell in bulk and not dillywangle with expensive chicks, I want to tell them at a decent price and spread the love of my birds. DH isnt liking me much, but I feel secure in selling numbers as apposed to possible big sales. 250. for two chicks is outrageous and I refuse to do it. So we are going to be amazingly priced and hoping word of mouth and customer loyalty will bring us enough extra cash to support my beasts.

Thoughts on my thinking? snickers ......... I am Sally Sunshine after all!

I have used it on mine, but wasnt sure of the amounts, I found a site I bookmarked for dosages on all sorta animals

Its used for Heartworm too and could be a cheap alternative with alot of critters I bookmarked it....
