I feel for you

I use sharp pruning shears to do the deed so that is an expected result.

Still, its the nasty side of our little hobby
I feel like if I asked my vet for some euthasol, she would give me some to use. I could give it intraperitoneal (I just spelled that completely wrong) and then I would have to pop their heads off. I have no problem taking some cockerel that I have lovingly raised and putting him in the cone, slitting his jugular and watching him bleed, but when they're little and fuzzy, I just hate that job. I'd much rather go the chemical route. I would use valium to sedate them before popping their heads off, but they take so many mg's of benzos to go under. A human takes like 10mg where a chicken takes like 300mg. What I have done in the past is wrapped them in a washcloth and squeezed them like a python would. It takes less than 15sec for them to asphyxiate and I don't have to go through the trauma of trying to cervically dislocate them without their heads coming off in my hand. Well the mushy turkey finally passed and the second (and last egg left from my bad hygrometer incident) was dead in the egg, so hopefully it won't be as much of an issue from now on. I just have to keep an eye on the accuracy of my instruments and stay away from those accurites.

or you can CO2 gas them with vinegar and baking soda if you find the need to make it longer

1 to 1 equals 1 to 1 to 1 to 1, according to balanced equation (in moles):
NaHCO3 + CH3COOH --> CO2 + H2O + CH3COO + Na

In grams:
84 g + 60 g - - - - - - -> 44 g + 18 g + 59 g + 23 g

OK What are you guys talking about? Don't tell me. I just hope not to have to do it. I had a bunny that somehow was dead from the waist down. I gave it a week, but called my neighbor to put it down. Lol I don't know how I am going to be able to cull my first to eat. :d

Its not for everyone dolfi, but if you keep incubating sooner or later you will have to cull a chick due to genetics defects or illness. Oz and RB just like to noodle each other at any chance....
