Diary of a Chicken Watcher

Last year a lady gave us two hens, a rooster, and six chicks. We have grown to love each and every one of them and have named them all. The sounds of happy chickens is soothing to my soul. Over the year I have watched these darlings interact and started a blog about Chicken Relationships . We also have have three dogs and four cats. The interaction of these critters fascinates me. I feel so lucky to find this wonderful forum.

My husband gets on car forums every morning but I'm lost on forums. Thank you all for welcoming me. I think I'm going to love this. I love talking about my chickens but when I talk about them to friends and neighbors they kind of look at me like I'm imagining half of what I'm saying. They still think chickens are just chickens -- the way I thought about chickens before I got to know them. I can't imagine life without chickens now.

We built a large dog house and put straw in it for our dogs to lay on. All of our chickens hung around while we worked and as soon as we put the straw in, Whitie decided she liked it enough to go in and lay an egg. Our dog, Buddy, saw her go in and so he went in too. Here is a pic of both of them enjoying the new dog house. no pic yet. I have to learn how to put the pic on here.

Edit to add: I just read your blog and what wonderful entries! Looking forward to reading more and I'm going to bookmark it. You might be interested in reading a fellow BYCer and blogger--her BYC name is 12 Acres.

Rocky and Whitie have the same relationship as my Kip and Tina. Kip has many ladies but Tina is his love.
Isn't it just the sweetest thing?

We had just finished building this doghouse and filled it with straw. Whitie went in to lay an egg and Buddy our dog decided to watch her lay the egg. He originally laid down right at the entrance and inch by inch, we never saw him move, he got closer and closer to Whitie.

Sometimes, when the chickens are all out pecking in the grass and Buddy spots a squirrel, he'll take off running but almost stops when he gets near the chickens, then it looks like he almost tiptoe's through them, then he takes off running again.
