You've got a great dog. Not many people trust their dogs with the chickens. I'm lucky, just like you. The dogs (I have three) always back down, even when it comes to food. I'll throw ground beef, cheese, etc. out there and when the chickens come running, the dogs are very aware.
They aren't even curious like Buddy is. They will go as far as getting up and leaving their spot if a chicken comes around. The chickens own the yard!
