Diatomaceous Earth Recommendations?

I need to order/find some food grade diatomaceous earth for the chicks. Just a few questions:

1) Is there a particular brand DE you would recommend? I was going to order Perma-Guard from MPC but they are out.
2) Is it OK to use with 6 week old chicks?
3) How much and how often should it be spread?

www.earthworks.com I bought 50 lb sack from them for about $26.00. I don't know what shipping would be for you, but it was reasonable for me considering the weight.

That stuff is REALLY heavy, so shipping charges might be prohibitive. Our local pet food/feed store carried food grade DE, and Ranchway did also, or yours might be able to order it for you. I've had it for over a year and haven't used it up. I tried using in in the coop, mixed with the bedding, but it is super dusty and I decided that neither I nor my chickens should be breathing that stuff regularly. I took all that bedding out and started over, made a little sandbox outside for my chickens with a bunch of DE mixed in, and they love to get in there and snuggle down into it.
