Hi everyone! I have a question about diatomaceous earth and which one is safe! I have a gigantic tick problem (despite my yard being sprayed x2 (chicken safe spray) and despite my chickens hopefully eating ticks) I am getting desperate because they are literally EVERYWHERE. Google said that diatomaceous earth can help if you sprinkle it around the yard! I am just looking to make sure I get one that is safe for my girls! Could someone help me out? Also if anyone has a better tick control idea I’m open to that too 😂

It does nothing for bugs.

I’ve heard it both ways there are people who swear by it, people who think it’s really bad stuff, and people (myself included) who don’t know what to believe.

If you think it might help, perhaps try running an experiment. Get some ticks in separate containers and sprinkle diatomaceous earth on one of the containers. Record the times the ticks die. Run a 2 sample T test with that data. If it proves to be statistically significant, calculate a confidence interval with a 95% CL.

If you don’t want to do any calculations, send me the data, and I’ll calculate it for you. You don’t have to do anything if you don’t want to, though. Good luck and I hope that the ticks go away!

I’ve also heard both! And I am desperate because the ticks are places where there isn’t even grass and where our chickens sometimes do not go so at this point I’m like, what is even the harm

Yeah, I’m on the fence about the whole thing. I’ve got a large bag of diatomaceous earth that I got for cheap some time a while ago, but now I wonder if it’s really safe for human (or chicken) consumption. I just don’t know.
