Diatomaceous earth

Yes. I often mix it with the hay in the nest boxes, and if I see they've dug themselves a good "dusting bowl" I sprinkle it liberally in there as well.

we have not had a mite problem. Coincidence? Maybe... maybe not... :)

I do the same thing. Plus I dust my donkeys and dogs with it also. It kills fleas and ticks immediately. I live near the Suwannee River, and last year when it crested, I dusted with DE and the mosquito problem went away almost over night.

I use it in my coop, in the dust bath spots and around the run and yard. I have not tried it on my dogs for flea control.

For those who want to use DE, get the food grade and not the pool filter DE. Pool filter DE can cause respiratory problems due to high silica content.

On a side note, I haven't been to Mayo in quite some time. I did a lot of diving at Peacock and Orange Grove Springs. So tell me, is that little store on the corner still there? The one near the ag inspection station? They had great sandwiches and burgers, especially the "all the way" burgers.
