We bought these 4 chicks from Tractor Supply tonight to replace a couple we’ve lost over the past few months to predators.

Now, being from TSC, I’ve learned to take their supposed breed with a grain of salt. Last year I bought a RIR pullet that turned out to be a Speckled Sussex. They weren’t even selling Sussex, so the hatchery must have had a mix up.

Anyhow, I got 2 Buff Orpington & 2 Golden Comet, all pullets. But I swear, these things are tiny! I’m wondering if they aren’t bantams. Granted, the last batch of chicks we raised were 20 Cornish X, so maybe it’s just that the 4 of them look extra small, being so few, but I swear our last egg layers didn’t but start this small.

Obviously time will tell, but I'm curious for opinions.

I don't think so. Bantams look like tiny little popcorn chicks. Okay, not that small, but smaller than what you have. I always forget how tiny new hatchlings are until I'm holding them, then they sprout like weeds over the next few weeks.

Thank you for the reassurance!! I’m sure they just look extra tiny after recently watching those Cornish X grow insanely fast.

These chicks seem friendlier than our past sets of chicks. Im excited for this, as I’ve always wanted a friendly, tame chicken. All our adult hens prefer that I just throw them food & leave them be.

Thank you again!
