We have mixed breed chicks from a farmer friend. Is this a cockerel? 8 weeks old , have no idea what breeds it is but jumps up at our hens like the other cockerel did.

Yes, it's another cockerel. If you are able to exchange it again, next time go for a birds with small, pale comb and wattles. That is the best sign of a female at that age.

Oh no! This one did have small yellow comb when we got it. I will have my husband exchange it this time. He picked out all pullets and I picked two cockerels!!! Lol!!! Thank you!!

As my cohorts have said, cockerel.

Be cautious introducing a new pullet to the group of pullets at this age. They are approaching the age where they can begin to be bullies, especially with just a single chicken.

You probably wouldn't see it as much intro-ing a cockerel, but pullet into a group of pullets is a caution event 👍

Ahhh yes I will keep an eye out for that. Thanks

I usually find when a chick turns out to be a cockerel, even if their comb is not yet red, it will start off more prominent, as well as their behavior is bolder.
